The national dataset was clipped to the WLCI envelope by USGS staff. No other processing was performed on the dataset. This map layer is commonly called Bailey's ecoregions and shows ecosystems of regional extent in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Four levels of detail are included to show a hierarchy of ecosystems. The largest ecosystems are domains, which are groups of related climates and which are differentiated based on precipitation and temperature. The circumboreal vegetation mapping (CBVM) project is an international collaboration among vegetation scientists to create a new vegetation map of the boreal region at a 1:7.5 million scale with a common legend and mapping protocol (Talbot and Meades 2011). The map is intended to portray potential natural vegetation, or the vegetation that would exist in the absence of human or natural disturbance, rather than existing vegetation that is commonly generated at larger scales. The U.S. Geological Survey's Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center (UMESC) is in the process of creating high-resolution land cover/use data sets for the Upper Mississippi River System (UMRS) from 1:24,000-scale color infrared aerial photos collected in 2000. The photos are being interpreted using a 1-hectare 10% minimum vegetation cover to delineate land cover/land use, percent vegetation cover, tree height, and hydrology regime. The geographic extent of the UMRS is the Mississippi River from Cairo, IL to Minneapolis, MN and the Illinois River from its confluence with the Mississippi near Grafton, IL to Lake Michigan.

This data contains land cover (mostly vegetation types) for the entire state of Wyoming at 1:100,000 scale. Attribute fields describe primary and secondary land cover, crown closure, wetlands, disturbance and other important land cover types occuring within the polygon. Only the fields for primary land cover and percentage of each polygon occupied by that land cover are complete in the coverage, but other attribute fields are populated when information was available.

The Interagency Vegetation Mapping Project (IVMP) provides maps of existing vegetation, canopy cover, size, and cover type for the entire range of the Northern Spotted Owl using satellite imagery from the Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM). This area is commonly called the FEMAT area, in reference to the area's analysis by the Forest Ecosystem Management Assessment Team. A regression modeling approach was used to predict vegetation characteristics from this Landsat data. In the desert southwest biodiversity is facing a changing landscape due to human population growth, expansion of energy development, and from the persistent effects of climate change among other threats. The 2012 Desert LCC science needs document recognized the importance of modeling and predicting habitat area, fragmentation and corridor network connectivity for a broad range of wildlife taxa. Tools and methods from conservation planning are available to address some of these issues, but tools to evaluate the expected benefits of corridors in mitigating climate change effects are only in their infancy. Vegetation and land cover data for Upper Klamath NWR. This dataset is based on interpretation of 2014 near-infrared imagery produced by the National Aerial Imagery Program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture with input on the general vegetation composition provided by local refuge staff. Field data at the species level were not available and further work is needed to refine this product to meet the convention of the National Vegetation Classification System. In addition, no validation was performed on this dataset.

This collection of conservation areas consists of the floodplain of the combined streams of the Iowa River and the Cedar River. The study area begins just southeast of Wapello, IA, and continues southeast until the Horseshoe Bend Division, Port Louisa NWR. The area is currently managed to maintain meadow or grassland habitat which requires intensive management due to vegetative succession. In addition, this floodplain area contains a high proportion of managed lands and private lands in the Wetland Reserve Program and is a high priority area for cooperative conservation actions.
