The Alaska Center for Conservation Science at the University of Alaska Anchorage, in partnership with the Northwest Boreal Landscape Conservation Cooperative, embarked on a project to map and quantify the human footprint across interior Alaska and northwestern Canada. The goal was to build a seamless dataset that spanned state, provincial and territorial boundaries to represent an initial look at intactness in the boreal ecosystems of western Canada and Alaska. This project builds upon work done by Ducks Unlimited Canada. Although our goal was to create a comprehensive representation of these footprint activities, we were limited to data that was publicly available, so this likely represents an underestimation of...
These raster files showing wetland areas that were ponded during Rainwater Basin Wetland Complex Annual Habitat Survey. Annual Habitat Surveys (AHS) identify areas of wetland ponding and function (ponding and potential hydrophyte vegetation) during spring migration. The information is developed by Rainwater Basin Joint Venture to identifying how much habitat the Rainwater Basin Wetland Complex provides to migratory waterfowl on an annual basis. AHS have been completed for 2004 and 2006-2020 where high-resolution aerial photos of the Rainwater Basin Wetland Complex are classified using an image object classification software to determine land cover (hydrophyte water, agriculture water, hydrophytes, agriculture, or...

The Cooperative Land Cover Map is a project to develop an improved statewide land cover map from existing sources and expert review of aerial photography. The project is directly tied to a goal of Florida's State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP) to represent Florida's diverse habitats in a spatially-explicit manner. The Cooperative Land Cover Map integrates 3 primary data types: 1) 6 million acres are derived from local or site-specific data sources, primarily on existing conservation lands. Most of these sources have a ground-truth or local knowledge component. We collected land cover and vegetation data from 37 existing sources. Each dataset was evaluated for consistency and quality and assigned a confidence category...
We worked with state and federal partners to (1) edge match the Oklahoma and Texas Ecological Systems (ECS) datasets with a focus on the Texas and Oklahoma panhandle region, (2) complete an enduring features (ecological site type; geophysical setting) dataset for Oklahoma, and (3) create a process for updating the Ecological Systems (ES) map and dataset by detecting land cover change and modeling the revised ES types. Staff from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) collected field data in support of edge matching, and to help better characterize and classify the ES types in the panhandle region of Texas and adjacent Oklahoma.
