The Sawatch Range, looking west across the Arkansas to Twin Lakes, about 10 miles distant. Beyond them extends the valley or canyon of Lake Creek up to Red Mountain Pass, on the summit of the range. These lakes are the trough or bed of an old glacier that once filled the valley. On the right is an immense lateral moraine bounding the lake on that side, and on the other is another of less prominence. Upon either side are Elbert and La Plata Peaks, the two next in height to Harvard. Chaffee and Lake Counties, Colorado. 1873.
