HydroSHEDS (Hydrological data and maps based on SHuttle Elevation Derivatives at multiple Scales) provides hydrographic information in a consistent and comprehensive format for regional and global-scale applications. HydroSHEDS offers a suite of geo-referenced data sets (vector and raster), including stream networks, watershed boundaries, drainage directions, and ancillary data layers such as flow accumulations, distances, and river topology information. HydroSHEDS is derived from elevation data of the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) at 3 arc-second resolution. Available HydroSHEDS resolutions range from 3 arc-second (approx. 90 meters at the equator) to 5 minute (approx. 10 km at the equator) with seamless...

The National Elevation Dataset (NED) is the primary elevation data product produced and distributed by the USGS. The NED provides the best available public domain raster elevation data of the conterminous United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and territorial islands in a seamless format. The NED is derived from diverse source data, processed to a common coordinate system and unit of vertical measure. All NED data are distributed in geographic coordinates in units of decimal degrees, and in conformance with the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD 83). All elevation values are provided in units of meters, and are referenced to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88) over the conterminous United States. The vertical...

Derived data layer based upon the NHD+ data layer. The layer represents the distance to the perennial streams and is used to model invasive annual grasses and noxious forbs and species assemblages. The NHDPlus Version 1.0 is an integrated suite of application-ready geospatial data sets that incorporate many of the best features of the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) and the National Elevation Dataset (NED). The NHDPlus includes a stream network (based on the 1:100,000-scale NHD), improved networking, naming, and "value-added attributes" (VAA's). NHDPlus also includes elevation-derived catchments (drainage areas) produced using a drainage enforcement technique first broadly applied in New England, and thus dubbed...

There are critical needs for a nationwide compilation of reliable shoreline data. To meet these needs, the USGS has produced a comprehensive database of digital vector shorelines by compiling shoreline positions from pre-existing historical shoreline databases and by generating historical and modern shoreline data. Shorelines are compiled by state and generally correspond to one of four time periods: 1800s, 1920s-1930s, 1970s, and 1998-2002. Each shoreline may represent a compilation of data from one or more sources for one or more dates provided by one or more agencies. Details regarding source are provided in the ‘Data Quality Information’ section of this metadata report. Shoreline vectors derived from historic...

The Ecological Mapping System (ECS) of Texas data set is a spatially explicit map that was completed in sections, starting in 2007 through 2013. Methods developed in Texas were extended and used to complete mapping in Oklahoma in 2014 and 2015, so maps are compatible across state borders and cover about 11% of the conterminous USA (Figure 1). Vegetation patterns change so maps from any given date are less accurate as time passes. Cost-efficient methods of producing map up-dates are needed to facilitate planning and management. For example, habitat for the Golden-cheeked Warbler (GCWA) in the Texas Hill Country is under threat from conversion to grasslands for grazing and to urban uses. Since the original maps for...

Originally created by Brad Shults, the GitHub repository was created for markdown code used to quality control survey data and create annual survey reports beginning in 2016. The repository can be found on GitHub (‘https://github.com/bsshults/Teshekpuk-Lake-Molt’). A copy of the master branch that was last committed by user “bsshults” (Brad Shults) on 2/24/20 was downloaded by Maggie Harings on 6/29/21 and stored on the Alaska Regional Data Repository (‘GitHub_Annual_Report_Code’). General file naming structure for repository files is: ‘TMGSurvey_Master_[surveyYear]’ Files ending in the file extension ‘.Rmd’ are used to conduct some quality control and data tidying for original survey data. These files contain comments...

The Gulf Coast Prairies LCC has initiated efforts to improve biological planning and landscape conservation design with a focus on implementing State Wildlife Plans (SWAPs) for the benefit of focal species and pollinators. To facilitate landscape conservation planning, the GCP LCC has supported land cover data projects as well as refining a platform for grassland planning, inventory and monitoring (G-MIT). These data are shared nationally through ScienceBase and the GCP Conservation Planning Atlas and used to inform their Grassland Decision Support Tool. While this work has been limited to parts of Texas and Oklahoma there is great interest and need to create high resolution, seamless and consistent land cover data...

The dataset includes Land Use/Land Cover types throughout the Chenier Eco-Region in Southwest Louisiana. Using the 2015 NAIP dataset (1m) as the basemap, E-Cognition image objects were derived from the multiresolution segmentation algorithm at 75 and 250 segments. Attempts to refine the data training methods using E-cognition, to extrapolate automating categories of this information to the entire map resulted with exceedingly low accuracy. Therefore, a raster was produced by piecing together several data resources, which provide reliable data for specific LULC categories. This process involved stitching together more reliable sources for specific categories to apply to higher resolution (75) segmentation product....

This dataset provides the geographical locations of karst groundwater basins, groundwater flowpaths, and dye injection/recovery points in Kentucky. Dye tracing is a common method used for understanding groundwater flow pathways and connectivity. Dye is poured (or injected) into a sinking stream, well, sinkhole, or body of flowing water, where it is carried down-gradient. The locations at which dye is detected (or recovered) indicates a connection from injection to recovery site. This connection is a groundwater flowpath. As more dye traces are conducted, flowpath convergence or lack thereof can be used to draw karst groundwater basins, which are analogous to surficial watersheds. Karst groundwater basins differ...
