In hydrologic studies, especially those using dynamic unsaturated zone moisture modeling, calculations based on property transfer models informed by hydraulic property databases are often used in lieu of measured data from the site of interest. Reliance on database-informed predicted values has become increasingly common with the use of neural networks. High-quality data are needed for databases used in this way and for theoretical and property transfer model development and testing. Hydraulic properties predicted on the basis of existing databases may be adequate in some applications but not others. An obvious problem occurs when the available database has few or no data for samples that are closely related to...

This dataset contains monthly pumping rates for municipal and industrial (MnI) wells in New Mexico within the Rio Grande Transboundary Integrated Hydrologic Model (RGTIHM). In RGTIHM, these wells are considered the Other New Mexico Extra (ONMXA) group. Monthly pumping rates are presented in units of cubic feet per day for the period from March 1940 through December 2014.

This dataset contains the model-simulated area of 57 water-balance subregions (WBS) in the Rio Grande Transboundary Integrated Hydrologic Model (RGTIHM) within the six canal service units used in the Lower Rio Grande Basin groundwater flow model (SSPA, 2007), as well as the fraction of the area of each WBS with irrigation-water supplied by a combination of groundwater and surface-water relative to the total area within the service unit containing the WBS with irrigation-water supplied by a combination of groundwater and surface-water. Area values are presented in units of acres.

This dataset contains the model-simulated area of seven canal service units in the Rio Grande Transboundary Integrated Hydrologic Model (RGTIHM). The total model-simulated area of each service unit is presented, as well as the area within each service unit with irrigation-water supplied by a combination of groundwater and surface-water and by only groundwater. Area values are presented in units of acres. The equivalent canal service unit used in the Lower Rio Grande Basin groundwater flow model (SSPA, 2007) is also indicated for each RGTIHM service unit (see the Canal_Balance_Annual_Acreage tabular dataset).

This point vector dataset represents 61 surface-water points of diversion used as input into the Streamflow-Routing (SFR) Package for MODFLOW-One-Water Hydrologic Flow Model in the Rio Grande Transboundary Integrated Hydrologic Model (RGTIHM). Thirty-one of the 61 diversion points represent surface-water deliveries to combined groundwater and surface-water water balance subregions (WBS), and the remaining 30 diversion points represent diversions to canals and laterals along the surface-water conveyance network. Flow was specified monthly at each diversion point as either a rate (volume per time) or as a fractional split from the simulated flow in the upstream segment.
This line vector dataset represents tributary segments simulated with the Streamflow-Routing (SFR) Package for MODFLOW-One-Water Hydrologic Flow Model in the Rio Grande Transboundary Integrated Hydrologic Model (RGTIHM).
This tabular dataset represents monthly flow at 18 surface-water inflow points used as input into the Streamflow-Routing (SFR) Package for MODFLOW-One-Water Hydrologic Flow Model in the Rio Grande Transboundary Integrated Hydrologic Model (RGTIHM). Fourteen of the inflow points represent wastewater treatment plant (WWTP)/water reclamation plant outfalls, two of the inflow points represent electric plant outfalls, and the remaining two inflow points represent gaged Rio Grande below Caballo Reservoir and Bonita Lateral flows near the beginning of the SFR network within the RGTIHM. Flow in this tabular dataset is specified monthly at each inflow point as a rate (volume per time) in units of cubic feet per day. See...

A hydrogeologic framework was developed by USGS during 2016-19 to describe the groundwater system on the Virginia Eastern Shore. This USGS data release contains text files of (1) interpreted borehole hydrogeologic-unit top-surface altitudes, (2) summary values of previously documented estimates of aquifer hydraulic properties, and (3) groundwater-sample chloride concentrations and well summary statistics. In addition are shapefiles of altitude contours for 10 hydrogeologic-unit top surfaces, and for the groundwater 250 milligrams per liter chloride-concentration surface. This data release supports the following publication: McFarland, E.R., and Beach, T.A., 2019, Hydrogeologic framework of the Virginia Eastern...

This Data Release summarizes measurements of hydraulic and physical properties of soils and ash at sites in the area impacted by the 2017 Thomas Fire, USA. Physical properties include dry bulk density, loss on ignition, and saturated soil water content. Hydraulic properties include field-saturated hydraulic conductivity, sorptivity, Green-Ampt wetting front potential, and soil water retention. These measurements provide a foundation to reduce uncertainty of parameters in hydrologic models used to predict water-related hazards, water quality, and water quantity. Note that all methods of data acquisition and processing, column headings, and data annotations are explained in the metadata files.

This dataset contains the monthly fractions of annual flow at the Rio Grande below Caballo Dam stream gage from March 1940 through 2014 derived from monthly flows extracted from Ferguson, I., Bureau of Reclamation, written commun., 2016. This dataset also indicates the months corresponding to the annual quartiles of monthly flow at the Rio Grande below Caballo Dam stream gage.

This point vector dataset represents 3,959 agricultural well locations and attributes used as input data for the Rio Grande Transboundary Integrated Hydrologic Model (RGTIHM). Attributes include well construction information, historic water use information, and flags indicating assumptions made for modeling purposes. Data were compiled from various sources; see Supplemental Information for details.
We have developed the quasi-steady centrifuge (QSC) method as a variation of the steady state centrifuge method that can be implemented simply and inexpensively with greater versatility in terms of sample size and other features. It achieves these advantages by somewhat relaxing the criterion for steadiness of flow through the sample. This compromise entails an increase in measurement uncertainty but to a degree that is tolerable in most applications. We have tested this new approach with an easily constructed apparatus to establish a quasi-steady flow of water in unsaturated porous rock samples spinning in a centrifuge, obtaining measurements of unsaturated hydraulic conductivity and water retention that agree...
