This data release consists of 1,984 line-kilometers of airborne electromagnetic (AEM), magnetic data and radiometric data collected from October to November 2017 in the upper East River and surrounding watersheds in central Colorado. The U.S. Geological Survey contracted Geotech Ltd. to acquire these data as part of regional investigations into the geologic structure and hydrologic framework of the area. The AEM data have been inverted to produce a series of regional cross-sections that constrain the electrical properties of the subsurface to a depth of ~500m. Data were acquired using the VTEM ET time-domain helicopter-borne electromagnetic system along flight lines that cross important geological structures over...
Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) is a trace atmospheric gas that is primarily of anthropogenic origin but also occurs naturally in fluid inclusions in some minerals and igneous rocks, and in some volcanic and igneous fluids. SF6 has been used as a dating tool of groundwater because atmospheric concentrations of SF6 are expected to continue increasing (Busenberg and Plummer, 1997). SF6 samples were collected in 30 wells in New Hanover County, North Carolina in May 2017. The results of these samples were input into a spreadsheet calculator developed by the USGS Groundwater Dating lab in order to estimate groundwater age based on SF6 concentrations. The wells sampled include monitoring, domestic, and large water user wells...

This dataset consists of altitudes of 18 springs located throughout the study area which were used in construction of the potentiometric-surface map. Springs were selected from the previously published report by Kresse and Hays (2009), and site reconnaissance. Surface-water features and springs represent the intersection of the groundwater-table with land surface. Spring altitudes were calculated from 10-meter digital elevation model (DEM) data (U.S. Geological Survey, 2015; U.S. Geological Survey, 2016) . These data include groundwater-level data from 59 wells measured from July to August 2017. Measured groundwater data are also available from the USGS National Water Information System (U.S. Geological Survey, 2018) Well locations were selected from three sources: previously reported sites (Kresse and Hays, 2009), site reconnaissance, and driller’s logs obtained from the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission driller database. This dataset contains 50-ft contours for the Hot Springs shallowest unit of the Ouachita Mountains aquifer system potentiometric-surface map. The potentiometric-surface shows altitude at which the water level would have risen in tightly-cased wells and represents synoptic conditions during the summer of 2017. Contours were constructed from 59 water-level measurements measured in selected wells (locations in the well point dataset). Major streams and creeks were selected in the study area from the USGS National Hydrography Dataset (U.S. Geological Survey, 2017), and the spring point dataset with 18 spring altitudes calculated from 10-meter digital elevation model (DEM) data (U.S. Geological Survey, 2015; U.S. Geological...

Geospatial datasets were developed to estimate the depth to the top of the Dakota Sandstone in feet below land surface datum within the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation in Colorado. This study was completed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe. One dataset was created for the contours showing the altitude (in feet) of the top of the Dakota Sandstone (shapefile Kd_talt_hand), and a second dataset was created for polygons representing the outcrops of the Dakota Sandstone (shapefile Dakota_outcrop_poly). These two datasets were used in combination with USGS digital elevation models (DEM) to create a dataset for the depth of the top of the Dakota Sandstone below the land surface...

This dataset contains environmental tracer data from surface water and groundwater samples collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in Redwell Basin, an alpine watershed in the Elk Mountains near the town of Crested Butte, Colorado. The basin is underlain by interbedded shale and sandstone that have been variably hydrothermally altered and silicified by local magmatic intrusions. Samples were collected from 2017 to 2019 from bedrock monitoring wells completed at multiple depths, shallow hand-installed piezometers and mini boreholes, springs, mine adits, and streams. The tracer data include stable isotopes of water (oxygen-18 and deuterium), tritium, dissolved noble gases (He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, and helium-3/helium-4...

The groundwater-level change maps for the Sparta-Memphis aquifer are constructed as a point-to-point comparison between wells measured in both 2011 and 2013. Wells not measured in both 2011 and 2013 were not included in the change maps construction. The 2011-2013 change map contains 261 corresponding wells. Groundwater-level differences were calculated by subtracting 2011 groundwater-level measurements, in ft below land surface from the 2013 groundwater-level measurements, in feet below land surface.

Aquifer testing was conducted in the Paradox Valley alluvial aquifer in Montrose County, Colorado, including short-term (slug tests) and long-term (pumping tests) stresses on the hydrologic system to determine hydraulic properties of the aquifer. Slug tests were conducted at four wells in March 2013, with only one well producing data that could be interpreted using analytical solutions. In the other three slug tests, water-level displacement was not instantaneous and displayed substantial noise meaning that the analytical solutions could not be applied. Pumping tests were conducted in March through June of 2013 by initiation of pumping at seven production wells screened in the aquifer and observation of water-level...

The U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission, the Arkansas Geological Commission, and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has monitored water levels in the Sparta Sand of Claiborne Group and Memphis Sand of Claiborne Group since the 1920's. Ground-water withdrawals have increased while water levels have declined since monitoring was initiated. This report has been produced to describe ground-water levels in the aquifers in the Sparta Sand and Memphis Sand and provide information for the management of this valuable resource. The 2005 potentiometric-surface map of the aquifers in the Sparta Sand and Memphis Sand was constructed using water-level data...

Dataset contains 20-ft contours for the 2015 Sparta-Memphis aquifer potentiometric-surface map, in Arkansas. The potentiometric-surface shows altitudes at which the water levels would have risen in tightly-cased wells and represents conditions during the period from January through June 2015. Groundwater-level data from wells cased completely in and with the screened interval open to the Sparta-Memphis aquifer are publicly available from the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Water Information System.

A steady-state groundwater flow model was developed for watersheds on the north shore of Long Island Sound in coastal Connecticut and adjacent areas of New York and Rhode Island. As part of the analysis, groundwater travel times and the components of the groundwater budget were calculated for each HUC12 basin within the model domain and for the watersheds of selected embayments identified by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The seaward boundaries of the HUC12 basins were extended to include adjacent coastal waters. This compilation includes shapefiles of the HUC12 basins and of the watersheds of selected embayments. Shapefiles of the selected embayments without the corresponding...

Hi-Desert Water District (HDWD) is constructing a wastewater treatment plant as part of a groundwater replenishment and reuse project (GRRP) in the east hydrogeologic unit (Nishikawa, and others, 2003) of the Warren Valley Basin (7-012) (California Department of Water Resources, 2016) in Yucca Valley, CA. The HDWD plans to use reclaimed wastewater for managed aquifer recharge by spreading treated wastewater into unlined ponds at the GRRP facility. Reclaimed wastewater will percolate through the unsaturated alluvium by gravity drainage through the unsaturated zone to the water table located about 370 feet (ft) below land surface (bls). As part of the cooperative efforts between the HDWD and the USGS, the electrical...
