GPChickenHistoricRange is an ESRI SDE Feature Class showing Colorado greater prairie chicken distribution. Maps are derived from records of lekking sites for greater prairie chickens. Leks may be classified as active, inactive or lek of unknown status. Classification is usually based on knowledge of population fluctuations and/or male attendance; leks are considered to identify important seasonal activity areas nearby. Currently defined as a 2.2 mile buffer zone around each active lek point in the SDE Feature Class GPChickenLeks and clipped to GPChickenOverallRange.
