As part of the hydrodynamic and sediment transport investigations in San Pablo Bay and China Camp Marsh, California, particle size distributions of bed sediments were measured at most instrumented stations and are presented in a comma-delimited values spreadsheet. This portion of the data release presents San Pablo Bay and China Camp Marsh sediment particle size distributions from samples collected during multiple instrument deployments. Users are advised to check the data carefully for sampling time, location, and reference information. During the winter of 2016 and the summer of 2018, the U.S. Geological Survey, Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center collected sediment cores for grain-size analysis in Mississippi and Arkansas. In a farm field adjacent to the Tallahatchie River near Money, Mississippi, 13 continuous sections of approximately 5-cm (2-in) diameter by approximately 1.5-m (5-ft) long sediment cores were extracted to better understand the sediment within the Mississippi River Valley alluvial aquifer. These data were used to support ongoing aquifer testing activities by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service. Lake Poinsett Dam is an earthen embankment dam located near Harrisburg, AR. In May of 2018, the...
This release contains data collected to study the impacts of vegetation removal on the condition of Lake Ozette Sockeye spawning habitat. From October 2018 to May 2019, continuous sediment temperature and subsurface dissolved oxygen were collected at sites near Olsen's Beach on the eastern shore of Lake Ozette, WA. Data were collected from 3 sites; a spawning control (SC) where sockeye currently return to spawn; a vegetation control (VC) where nearshore vegetation inhibits the amount of sockeye spawning; and a vegetation treatment (TR) area where nearshore vegetation was manually removed to assess if habitat quality can be improved. In addition to the continuous data, particle size data from the nearshore were determined...
This data release provides information on the chemistry and character of bed sediments accumulated in the 1.6-mile long impoundment behind Enloe Dam on the Similkameen River in Okanogan County, WA. Sediment samples were collected during four weeks in October – December 2019. The sampling locations were distributed among 10 transects that ranged from 0.1-0.2 miles apart along the length of the reservoir. Surficial grab samples of bed material were collected at 27 locations representing the left, right or center of the channel cross-section where sampling was possible using a Ponar sampler. Sediment cores were collected with a Vibracore at 12 locations at or near the surficial grab sample transects, and discrete sediment...

These data were collected from the TOPGUN-SODA10 2AK core collected in 2010 by LacCore (University of Minnesota), the USGS. and the University of California (U.C.) Berkeley. The 8.9 meter length core had stable isotopes of oxygen and carbon sampled every 10 millimeters or so, and diatoms samples at every 50 millimeters to 200 millimeters depending on the depth in the core. mineralogic data were collected using X-ray diffraction and grain-size analysis were done at various depths. These data are used to interpret the Holocene and late Pleistocene hydrology and paleoclimate of the lake and the region. The interpretation can be found in: Rosen, M.R., Reidy, L., Starratt, S., Zimmerman, S., in review, Middle Holocene...

Two marine geological surveys were conducted in Long Island Sound, Connecticut and New York, in fall 2017 and spring 2018 by the U.S. Geological Survey, University of Connecticut, and University of New Haven through the Long Island Sound Mapping and Research Collaborative. Sea-floor images and videos were collected at 210 sampling sites within the survey area, and surficial sediment samples were collected at 179 of the sites. The sediment data and the observations from the images and videos are used to identify sediment texture and sea-floor habitats.
