This data set contains boundaries and tags for major geologic units in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In addition to the polygons representing the areal extent of geologic units, it identifies major faults and continental glaciation in Alaska. The data depict the geology of the bedrock that lies at or near the land surface, but not the distribution of surficial materials such as soils, alluvium, and glacial deposits. This map complements the Generalized Geologic Map of the Conterminous United States by Reed and Bush. The data are generalized from a compilation prepared for use in the Geologic Map of North America, published as a paper map by the Geological Society of America and...
The 'Localization of Copper Deposits' file is part of the Grover Heinrichs mining collection. Grover was the Vice President of Heinrichs GEOEXploration, located in Tucson, Arizona. The collection contains over 1,400 folders including economic geology reports, maps, photos, correspondence, drill logs and other related materials. The focus of much of the information is on the western United States, particularly Arizona, but the collection also includes files on mining activity throughout the United States, foreign countries, and 82 mineral commodities.

This digital dataset, compiled from previously published andunpublished data sources, contains a personal geodatabase andraster data of features related to the repeated inundation of theWillamette Valley and Portland basin by Missoula Flood waters inLate Pleistocene time. The feature classes contained within theWill_Valley geodatabase are called 'erratics', representing thelocations of ice-rafted erratics; 'contours', representinginundation levels associated with stratigraphic evidence ofrepeated floodings; and 'geology', representing the generaldistribution of Missoula Flood deposits. A stand-alone tablewithin the geodatabase contains geologic unit descriptions forthe geology polygons contained in the 'geology'...

This Data Release contains geospatially-enabled geological data to accompany the Geologic Map of the Central Beaverhead Mountains, Lemhi County, Idaho, and Beaverhead County, Montana: U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Map 3413. This map portrays detailed geology of the central Beaverhead Mountains, printable at 1:50,000 scale. These data were collected between 1997 and 2017, and synthesized to provide significant new stratigraphic and structural data and interpretations. Generalized basin geology compiled from sources on both sides of the range is combined with newly mapped bedrock geology to better integrate geologic development of the map area. These data are shared to meet open data requirements...

This database portrays the surface and shallow subsurface geology of the greater Charleston, S.C. region east of 80°30′ west and south of 33°15′ north. The region covers the entirety of Charleston County and portions of Berkeley, Colleton, Dorchester, and Georgetown Counties. Units locally exposed at the surface range in age from middle Eocene to Holocene, but most of the area is covered by Quaternary interglacial deposits. These are, from oldest to youngest, the Okefenokee, Waccamaw(?), Penholoway, Ladson, Ten Mile Hill, and Wando Formations and the Silver Bluff beds. Two cross sections (not included in the database), one running southeast from Harleyville to the coastline on James Island and the other running...

A digital dataset of the geomorphology of the Lower Mississippi River Valley in Missouri, Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Mississippi was developed from Roger T. Saucier’s “Geomorphology and Quaternary Geologic History of the Lower Mississippi Valley, Volumes I and II” (1994) as part of the Mississippi Alluvial Plain (MAP) Regional Water Availability Study. The maps included in the 1994 reports provide a comprehensive overview of the previously misunderstood alluvial valley geology and characterize twenty-nine Pleistocene and Holocene alluvial deposits, such as point bars, abandoned channels, backswamps, and natural levees. Each map was georeferenced to North American Datum 1983 and projected to USA...

This digital map database, compiled from previously published andunpublished data, and new mapping by the authors, represents thegeneral distribution of bedrock and surficial deposits in the mappedarea. Together with the accompanying text file (pamf.ps, pamf.pdf,pamf.txt), it provides current information on the geologic structureand stratigraphy of the area covered. The database delineates mapunits that are identified by general age and lithology following thestratigraphic nomenclature of the U.S. Geological Survey. The scaleof the source maps limits the spatial resolution (scale) of thedatabase to 1:62,500 or smaller.

New 1:24,000-scale geologic mapping along the Interstate-70urban corridor in western Colorado, in support of the State/USGS Cooperative Geologic Mapping Project, is contributing to amore complete understanding of the stratigraphy, structure, tectonic evolution, and hazard potential of this rapidlydeveloping region. The 1:24,000-scale Vail East quadranglestraddles the Gore fault system, the western structuralboundary of the Gore Range. The Gore fault system is acontractional structure that has been recurrently active sinceat least the early Paleozoic and marks the approximate easternboundary of the Central Colorado trough, a thick late Paleozoicdepocenter into which thousands of meters of clastic sedimentwere deposited...

These maps show, for emergency service managers in the San FranciscoBay region, the threshold rainfall that may be capable oftriggering a level of debris-flow activity likely to threatenpublic safety. The maps are products of a continuing series ofstudies that began after a catastrophic storm on January 3-5, 1982triggered 18,000 debris flows in the San Francisco Bay region, causing 25 deaths and $66 million in property damage. Thethreshold rainfall values were estimated by re-evaluating aprevious empirical analysis of data from the 1982 storm, and otherhistorical rainfall records, that normalized the rainfall intensitydata by dividing by the mean annual precipitation (MAP) of thecorresponding rain gage. The present...
