These layers show land ownership and status of all Canadian and U.S. lands that fall within the boundaries of the Great Northern Landscae Conservation Cooperative. Layers were compiled from various sources, each with it’s own metadata reference file.

Federal resource managers,
(This dataset displays the land facet elevation class) Land facets are a primary component in TNC’s analysis of site resilience to climate change. Their inclusion is based on the assumption that preservation of representative examples of the geophysical ‘Stage’ (ie., topo-edaphic factors) results in protection of a wider variety of species (the ‘Players’). These data represent a land facet classification created for the Pacific Northwest Landscape Resilience project. Each Land Facet has been stratified by terrestrial ecoregions - essentially defining each combination of soil order, elevation zone and slope class as unique from that same combination in another ecoregion. A full description of the development of...

Solar radiation grids were produced for a set of large fires sampled from within the Great Northern Landscape Conservation Cooperative study area. This solar radiation grid was produced using the Area Solar Radiation tool in ArcGIS 10.1, using inputs of the associated 30m DEM.

Shapefile of a set of fires sampled from the GNLCC Large Fire Database, 1984-2011. This sampled was collected from across the total variability in climate within the Great Northern Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GNLCC) study area. Additional detail about the topography, climate, and burn severity was collected for this identified sample, and used to model fire refugia and low-severity burn probability within the fire perimeters. Each fire has a unique numeric identifier of “PolyID”. Additional attributes are as follows:FIRE_ID: For those fires with an ID, the ID assigned by the reporting agency of the MTBS project.FIRENAME: Names of those fires which are named. This is uncommon in Canada.YEAR: The year the fire...

As the impacts of climate change amplify, understanding the consequences for wetland dynamics will be critical for their sustainable management and conservation, particularly in arid regions such as the CP ecoregion. However, the data to model climate impacts to wetland ecosystems has been hampered by the lack of accurate maps showing their spatial distribution and data on their historical hydrological dynamics. Though these data may exist for particular wetlands, there are no wall-to-wall consistent datasets of wetland location and long-term hydrological dynamics. Climate change has emphasized the growing need to plan conservation actions across large landscapes and at a longer-term time scales. As such, consistent...

EARTH SCIENCE > LAND SURFACE > LANDSCAPE,
A continuous 2km raster Digital Elevation Model (DEM) for the Great Northern Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GNLCC) study area. This DEM was complied for analysis of topographic effects on climate within the GNLCC study area, as a part of the GNLCC Fire Refugia Project. The DEM was complied from USGS National Elevation Dataset (NED) (http://ned.usgs.gov/), the British Columbia Gridded Digital Elevation Model Product (http://geobc.gov.bc.ca/base-mapping/imagery/products/gridded.html), and the NASA ASTER GDEM (http://asterweb.jpl.nasa.gov/gdem.asp), mosaicked, and sinks were filled in ArcGIS.
