![]() This file contains soil data for 3 depths (0-0.5 meters, 0.5-1.5 meters, and greater than 1.5 meters) for percent sand, clay, and rockiness for the entire globe at a half degree grid resolution. A single bulk density value and mineral depth are also provided for each gridcell. Bulk density values came from the the International Geosphere Biosphere Programme (IGBP). Mineral depth, clay, sand, and rockiness values came from the International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project (ISLSCP).
![]() This dataset contains an ice mask for the globe. It is based on a texture class map created by Zobler (1986).
![]() 10K grid of points indicating cells containing 55-60% cover derived from United Nations FAO www.fao.org/geonetworks/ . These units are defined as units of concern for forest birds.

![]() The Soil Landscapes of Canada (SLC) are a series of GIS coverages that show the major characteristics of soil and land for the whole country. SLCs were compiled at a scale of 1:1 million, and information is organized according to a uniform national set of soil and landscape criteria based on permanent natural attributes. The SLCs are based on existing soil survey maps which have been recompiled at 1:1 million scale. Each area (or polygon) on the map is described by a standard set of attributes. The full array of attributes that describe a distinct type of soil and its associated landscape, such as surface form, slope, water table depth, permafrost and lakes, is called a soil landscape. SLC polygons may contain one...

![]() The forest cover map is the first comprehensive worldwide view of forests, using a consistent methodology and standard data. The map has a resolution of 1 km and is based on 1992-93 and 1995-96 AVHRR data. Four broad land cover categories are presented following FAO standard classification: closed forest, open/fragmented forest, other wooded land and other land. Due to the coarse source data, the map cannot be used to obtain reliable country forest cover statistics. The final map has been drafted through validation with information/maps based on higher resolution data, e.g. Landsat TM or SPOT images. An accuracy assessment will be carried out in year 2000 to determine the classification accuracy. This dataset represents...
