This data release includes a polygon shapefile of grid cells attributed with values representing the simulated base-flow, evapotranspiration, and groundwater-storage depletions as a percentage of hypothetical well pumpage for the 2011-2060 time period. Depletions were simulated by the Phase-Three Elkhorn-Loup Model (ELM), constructed using MODFLOW-NWT (Niswonger and others, 2011). Each polygon represents one model grid cell, with pumping specified from either layer one or layer two of the model. All values are estimates and approximations. The groundwater discharge area (GDA) in Tule and part of Sevier valley represents the area where discharge from evaporation by open water or bare soil and transpiration from phreatophytic plants exceeds the volume of water contributed by precipitation. The GDA was delineated during field reconnaissance of the study area using techniques similar to those used in previous studies throughout Nevada and eastern Utah.

This dataset, created in support of USGS Scientific Investigations Report 2020-5075, Estimates of Groundwater Discharge by Evapotranspiration, Stump Spring and Hiko Springs, Clark County, Nevada, 2016-18, represents the groundwater discharge area (GDA) for the Stump Springs riparian area and Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC). Vegetated areas within the GDA are composed of phreatophytic shrubs interspersed with xeric vegetation and bare soil. The GDA was delineated by visual interpretation of 1-meter National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) aerial imagery acquired in May of 2015. The ACEC boundary was determined by the Bureau of Land Management.
The polygons in this shapefile accompany the paper, “Multi-year data from satellite- and ground-based sensors show details and scale matter in assessing climate’s effects on wetland surface water, amphibians, and landscape conditions,” by Sadinski et al. (submitted). The paper describes relations between climate dynamics and key ecological conditions and processes on wetland-upland landscapes in > 30 sites distributed across four study areas in the midwestern United States. The variables studied included both ground- and satellite-based measures. This dataset, created in support of USGS Scientific Investigations Report 2020-5075, Estimates of Groundwater Discharge by Evapotranspiration, Stump Spring and Hiko Springs, Clark County, Nevada, 2016-18, represents the groundwater discharge area (GDA) for the Hiko Springs area. Vegetated areas within the GDA are composed of phreatophytic shrubs interspersed with xeric vegetation and bare soil. The GDA was delineated by visual interpretation of 1-meter National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) aerial imagery acquired in May of 2015. Areas of channel scour within the GDA resulting from a flood event in September 2015 were delineated from a 1.84 meter resolution 2016 Worldview 2 image.
