Estimated Use of Water by Subbasin (HUC8) and Subwatershed (HUC12) in the Delaware River Basin, 2010
These datasets present offstream water use estimates from 2010 which are aggregated to the 8-digit (subbasin) and 12-digit (subwatershed) hydrologic unit level for the Delaware River Basin. The data support USGS Scientific Investigations Report 2015-5142.
Floating transient electromagnetic (FloaTEM) surveys in the Delaware River near Barryville, New York
Floating transient electromagnetic (FloaTEM) data were acquired on the Upper Delaware River during December 2018. During the survey, approximately 10 line-kilometers were collected in the Upper Delaware River, near USGS boring 12008-14 (https://webapps.usgs.gov/GeoLogLocator/#!/search) near Barryville, New York study area. Data were collected by members of the U.S. Geological Survey, Hydrogeophysics Branch, New England Water Science Center, and the National Park Service UPDE. FloaTEM data acquired along the Delaware River in Sullivan County, in New York, were collected to test a new continuous water-borne transient electromagnetic data collection platform, and to characterize the subsurface resistivity structure....
Electromagnetic (EM) geophysical methods provide information about the bulk electrical conductivity of the subsurface. EM data has been widely used to investigate aquifers and geologic structures. In the following study, the United States Geological Survey conducted a boat-towed, waterborne transient electromagnetic (FloaTEM) survey to examine conductivity within the subsurface of the Delaware River channel. These conductive zones determine the location of the groundwater freshwater/saltwater interface within the Delaware River, downstream from Wilmington, DE. The FloaTEM system transmits a primary electrical current through a transmitter loop (Tx) wire. This creates a static primary magnetic field. Then, the current...

The datasets provided here are the input data used to run the Seasonal Kendall Trend (SKT) tests and Weighted Regressions on Time, Discharge, and Season (WRTDS) models. SKT tests use "annualSamplingFreqs_allSites.csv" and "wqData_screenedSitesAll.csv" which includes, for all site-parameter combinations, information on annual sampling frequencies and the screened water-quality data, respectively. The WRTDS models use "DRB.wqdata.20200521.csv", "DRB.flow.20200610.zip", and "DRB.info.20200521.csv" for calibration which includes, for all site-parameter combinations, the water-quality data, streamflow data (as separate .csv files for each site), model specifications and site information, respectively. The multisource...

These data sets were created in support of the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Next Generation Water Observing System (NGWOS) for the Delaware River Basin pilot study (Eberts, Wagner, and Woodside, 2019). The NGWOS utilizes real-time data, improved computational capabilities, and new technologies such as the rapid deployment of unmanned aerial vehicle's (UAV) and autonomous underwater vehicle's (AUV) to provide information on water quantity and quality, in more locations, quickly and efficiently (Eberts, Wagner, and Woodside, 2019). Combined with advanced modeling applications, the NGWOS will be an important tool for water-resource managers and emergency management. Water-quality and bathymetric data were measured...

This dataset describes the quantity and morphology of microplastics in water, sediment, fish, and mussel samples from the Delaware River and select tributaries, including portions of the Upper Delaware Scenic & Recreational River, Middle Delaware National Scenic River, Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, and Lower Delaware Scenic & Recreational River. Water and sediment samples were collected at nine locations, from Callicoon, New York, at the upstream end, to Burlington, New Jersey, at the downstream end. Smallmouth bass (Micropterus dolomieu), white sucker (Catostomus commersonii), and eastern elliptio (Elliptio complanata) were sampled at a subset of locations to assess biological uptake of microplastics....

This site is for data and information compilation and sharing related to the work of the Predictive Understanding of Multiscale Processes (PUMP) project. PUMP is advancing multi-scale, integrated modeling capabilities to address priority water resource issues within the Integrated Water Prediction (IWP) program, Integrated Water Science (IWS) Basin studies, Integrated Water Availability Assessments (IWAAs), and other relevant Water Mission Area (WMA) project efforts. Development and testing of modeling approaches occurs at multiple scales spanning national and sub-national domains. Models will leverage physical process-driven approaches, data-driven approaches (statistical and machine learning (ML)), and hybrid...

Exposure of wildlife to Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) is likely to occur but evidence of hazard and risk is limited. One exposure pathway that has received attention is trophic transfer of APIs in a water-fish-osprey food chain. Samples of water, fish plasma and osprey plasma were collected from Delaware River and Bay, and analyzed for 21 APIs. Only 2 of 21 analytes exceeded Method Detection Limits (MDL) in osprey plasma (acetaminophen and diclofenac) with plasma levels typically 2-3 orders of magnitude below human therapeutic concentrations (HTC). We built upon a screening level model used to predict osprey exposure to APIs in Chesapeake Bay and evaluated whether exposure levels could have been predicted...

Jointly managed by multiple states and the federal government, there are many ongoing efforts to characterize and understand water quality in the Delaware River Basin (DRB). Many State, Federal and non-profit organizations have collected surface-water-quality samples across the DRB for decades and many of these data are available through the National Water Quality Monitoring Council's Water Quality Portal (WQP). For this data release, WQP data in the DRB were harmonized, meaning that they were processed to create a clean and readily usable dataset. The harmonization process included the synthesis of parameter names and fractions, the condensation of remarks and other data qualifiers, the resolution of duplicate...

The datasets provided here are the output from the Seasonal Kendall Trend (SKT) test and Weighted Regressions on Time, Discharge, and Season (WRTDS) model that characterize changes in water quality in rivers and streams across the Delaware River Basin. SKT results are compiled in "skt_out.csv" for all combinations of site, water-quality parameter, and trend period. WRTDS results are compiled in four datasets. If unspecified, generalized flow normalization (GFN) results are reported. Stationary flow normalization (SFN) results are indicated in the datasets. "wrtds_out_annResults.csv" contains the annual estimates of mean concentration and load and GFN and SFN estimates by site and parameter for the entire calibration...
