This dataset features floodplain depth (in meters) at discharges from 15,000 cfs to 100,000 cfs. The spatial extent for floodplain inundation modeling in the lower Trinity River was from Romayor, Texas, to approximately Moss Bluff, Texas. River sections were modeled using steady flow conditions. For the upper section, discharge and stage were both available for the two gages (Romayor USGS 08066500 and Liberty USGS 08067000). For the lower section, the Moss Bluff gage (USGS 08067100) is tidally-influenced, so gage height didn’t correspond to upstream changes in discharge. Depth rasters were exported from HEC-RAS 5.0.0. Since the lower section had large over- and underestimates, depth values were sampled along the...

The Gulf Coast Prairie Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GCPLCC) has identified grassland habitats and species as priorities for conservation. The goal of the current effort is to (1) identify landscapes of importance at appropriate scale for further work, (2) develop GIS data and decisions support tools to facilitate further conservation efforts. MoRAP identified and mapped grassland landscapes based on neighborhood analysis of current land cover. This dataset includes urban, cropland, and ruderal land cover in order to attribute grassland patches with landscape context variables that may disturb grassland.

Ecological integrity of priority habitats was based on degree of local human development, amount and local connectivity of habitat, and quality of habit. Indicators were selected to reflect the needs of focal species, as well as other key ecological attributes of these habitats. Ecological integrity was estimated for floodplain forests, freshwater wetlands, human development, major rivers, rice agriculture, tallgrass prairie, and tidal wetlands.Ratings of each indicator are based on a viability assessment conducted following the Open Standards framework. Indicators with ratings of Good or Very Good are within the acceptable range of natural variation (with Good suggesting some management may be needed to get the...

The Gulf Coast Vulnerability Assessment utilized expert opinion that was gathered through the Standardized Index of Vulnerability and Value (SIVVA) tool, which is an Excel-based vulnerability and prioritization tool that enables assessors to provide input in a relatively short time and allows for relatively seamless compilation of results. The vulnerability of each ecosystem and associated species was conducted by subregion, excluding those subregions where the species did not occur in significant numbers. Assessors were asked to evaluate species based on the habitats they use in a particular subregion. Because vulnerability can vary with life-stage for many species, assessors were asked to consider the most vulnerable...

The Blueprint analysis, maps, and data on this site represent the level of value – high or medium – of healthy natural resources and their potential to benefit fish, wildlife and plants. It is part of our effort to reach beyond our Region’s conservation community’s to begin talking with a range of groups about areas that have value for conservation. This information is crafted to help us get a glimpse of the of the Region as we think about emerging trends, better planning and better conversations with everyone who has a stake in what the Southeast Region might look like in 2060. Private lands identified on the map may be good candidates for voluntary conservation programs, which help keep working lands working....

Flow alteration – from new and existing water supply projects, increased urbanization, and drought conditions – is a pervasive threat to aquatic wildlife throughout the Gulf Coast Prairie region. One species susceptible to this threat is Guadalupe Bass, an economically and ecologically important black bass species endemic to Texas. The area encompassing their range is projected to experience some of the highest population growth in Texas, placing increased demands on the aquifers and watersheds of this region. A previous GCP LCC instream Flow project conducted by the Southeast Aquatic Resources Partnership (SARP) produced hypotheses about instream flow requirements of native aquatic species that need to be tested....

Based on discussions with the Grassland Decision Support Tool Technical Review Team, NatureServe, and MoRAP regarding combining efforts for an expanded project to address grassland conservation within the Gulf Coast Prairie LCC, we propose 5 tasks. The effort will utilize the expertise of Nature Serve to facilitate, coordinate and communicate the efforts with stakeholders, and MoRAP to focus on the technical elements of the products identified by partners including data development and analysis. MoRAP performed a spatial analysis to identify opportunities for grassland habitat conservation and attributed these polygons with ecological character / biological variables such as patch size, prevailing potential grassland...

This dataset features inundated areas connected to the main channel at discharges from 15,000 cfs to 95,000 cfs. To model river stage specific inundation for the upper section, discharge for each Landsat 8 overpass date was entered as the upstream...

Prioritization for protection of habitat (via acquisition or easements), based on local scale ecological integrity, degree of threats faced, potential conservation opportunities, and conservation value of surrounding landscape. In contrast to ecological integrity ratings; threat, opportunity and landscape rankings are largely based on the range of values of any given indicator across the geography, sorted by quantile. There are some exceptions, particularly for indicators used to develop threat rankings (e.g., urban development risk). EEMS is a tree-based, fuzzy logic modeling system, where output values range from -1 to +1, indicating whether a given output is entirely FALSE or TRUE, respectively. Indicators with...

This spatially-explicit decision support tool identifies wetlands and grasslands that are currently suitable for mottled duck nesting and brood rearing activities as well as identify areas that are priority for grassland establishment and freshwater enhancement for mottled duck nesting and brood rearing activities in the Western Gulf Coast. The identification process is based on key biological parameters such as patch size, land use type, distance to habitat, etc. Additionally, these datasets present the data in a form that prioritizes habitat from more suitable to less suitable based on landscape metrics. The scale ranges from 1 to 0, higher value designating higher priority.
