Climate grids for the extent of the GNLCC study area saved as asciis with a 2km resolution. These grids are saved in in the Albers Equal Area Conic projection. Summer is defined as months 7-9, while winter is defined as months 1-3. All grids with the exception of cmi.asc, dd5.asc, & growingsl.asc were produced in the program ClimateWNA, which downscales PRISM climate grids using a digital elevation model. The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AGFD) recognizes the need for a strong data foundation to inform science-based decisions for fisheries management at a watershed level. In the drier, mid- and low-elevation portions of the Southern Rockies LCC, Fremont cottonwood represents the only native vegetation of tall stature, and cottonwood-dominated woodlands provide critical habitat for a large array of neotropical migratory birds and other animals. These woodlands likely dominated alluvial reaches of all streams where a snowmelt-driven spring flood was the major factor driving geomorphic and vegetation dynamics. Satellite imagery from the Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper sensor and the Landsat 8 Operational Land Imagery were used to investigate changes in overall evergreen vegetation occurring between the 1986-1989 and 2013-2014 time periods. Two path/rows of imagery, from the spring, summer, and fall seasons for each time period were mosaicked together. The imagery was then subset to remove the presence of clouds from the datasets. This cost-weighted distance (CWD) raster was developed from a generalized shrub-steppe and grassland (SSGL) species guild resistance model based on 20th percentile of resistance values for the five statewide analysis (WHCWG 2010) focal species in this biome, including sage-grouse, black-tailed jackrabbit, white-tailed jackrabbit, badger, and sharp-tailed grouse.

The purpose of this project was to develop a spatially explicit occupancy model for grizzly bears across the full extent of the CCE. The landscape occupancy model was created using ecological variables compiled for the CCE by the CMP and grizzly bear detection data provided by our partners in Alberta, British Columbia, and Montana.

Groundwater withdrawals in the western US are a critical component of the water resources strategy for the region. Climate change already may be substantially altering recharge into groundwater systems; however, the quantity and direction (increase or decrease) of changes are relatively unknown as most climate change assessments have focused on surface water systems. We propose to conduct a broad scale literature review followed by a synthesis of available data, analysis and simulations with available downscaled climate scenarios to understand how recharge in the western US might respond to plausible climatic shifts during the rest of the 21st Century.
