This data layer represents a tested potential Conservation Target (CT) for PFLCC's Priority Resource (PR): Coastal Uplands. The suggested potential CT was Species Richness. Species Richness is one component of biodiversity, an important aspect of landscape conservation. Biodiversity is important for maintaining the balance of natural communities and ecosystems upon which humans also depend. Florida has a high level of species diversity and endemism but the state is experiencing threats to its natural heritage from a variety of sources. These data show the potential for Coastal Uplands in Florida to migrate inland with Sea Level Rise (SLR) up to 1-meter. Protected areas within a 300-meter buffer were assessed to evaluate potential areas available for inland migration. These data represent an initial estimation of potential availability for habitat migration; additional, more refined investigations that include additional variables would be required to determine areas of high and low potential and onsite planning. This layer shows the most recent sea turtle nesting data for Loggerhead Sea Turtles in Florida. These data were evaluated as a potential Conservation Target, orbiological indicator, for the Coastal Uplands Priority Resource. Sea turtle nesting data does not provide a good biological indicator because they show a high degree of philopatry to nesting beaches. This project entails creation and refinement of the conservation targets for the terrestrial Priority Resources for the Peninsular Florida Landscape Conservation Cooperative. Potential Conservation Targets were developed through stakeholder Workshops held throughout the State of Florida in 2016/2017. Lists of potential CTs were generated through brainstorming and general discussion and stakeholders ranked the final list for suitability for using as a measure of Priority Resource health. The resulting list of potential CTs for the Coastal Uplands Priority Resource were explored and the results were presented to the Coastal Uplands team. The layer was created from the Cooperative Land Cover 3.2 (November 2016). Coastal Uplands include the landcovers: Shell Mound, Sand Beach, Maritime Hammock, Coastal Strand, Coastal Grassland, Coastal Berm, and Beach Dune. Priority Resources represent portions of the Coastal Uplands are within Priorities 1 and 2 of the CLIP 4.0 Aggregated Model. CLIP 4.0 is a geodatabase with spatial models used in prioritizing conservation lands in Florida.
