Album caption and index card: Kayenta Formation along Cohab Canyon. Black cobbles and boulders are lava; similar boulders cover benches and slopes locally, particularly near Fremont River. Thse boulders have had a long history of movement by streams and by gravity down slopes toward east. Nearest present outcrops of similar lava are on Boulder Mountain about 12 miles to southeast and about 5,000 feet higher. Capitol Reef Monument, Wayne County, Utah. April 1964.

Geologic units include Moenkopi Formation as dark evenly bedded rocks in lower part, Chinle Formation as light colored slopes largely covered with large blocks, Wingate Sandstone as steep as smooth cliff, Kayenta Formation as more irregular and broken cliff forming skyline to left of photo, and Navajo Sandstone as white pinnacled cap in center background. This polygon feature class represents vegetation communities mapped at Capitol Reef National Park to an alliance or association level, depending on the photo signature. The polygons were generated using guidelines set by the Standardized National Vegetation Classification System (October 1995). Original lines were drawn on-screen using the DOQs collected in June of 2002 as a base map. Hard copy 9X9 photography was used for photo interpretation. Traditional image interpretation cues were used to develop the polygons, such as shape, size, pattern, tone, texture, color, and shadow. Additional data layers were used in aiding the interpretation, such as slope, hydrology, geography, and ground-collected vegetation information....

This section of the data release includes core images in the format of photos (JPG) that have been compressed into a zipped file (2018LakePowellCoring_CorePhotos.zip). It is Part 4 (of four) in this data release and contains images of the cleaned archival half from split cores as they appeared immediately after splitting (late March and early April 2019). Each photo includes a ruler (in centimeters) and X-Rite ColorChecker Classic color correction card that may be used for corrections. Development of a high-resolution digital elevation model (DEM) of the pre-Glen Canyon Dam topography in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Utah and Arizona was initiated to assist the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in its Lake Powell coring program in the fall of 2018 (https://www.usgs.gov/centers/ut-water/science/lake-powell-coring). Topographic surveys of Glen Canyon were commissioned by the Bureau of Reclamation during the planning stages for Lake Powell as part of the Colorado River Storage Project (S. 500, 1956).
