This shapefile was developed in a project that identified areas with potential habitat for priority amphibian and reptile species or that likely support a noteworthy diversity of reptile or amphibian species in the North Atlantic Landscape Conservation Cooperative (http://nalcc.databasin.org/pages/about-north-atlanticlcc) and Northeast Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (northeastparc.org) regions. Our approach spatially applied the Priority Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Area (PARCA) System Criteria and Implementation Guidelines (PARCA Guidance; Sutherland and deMaynadier 2012) to combine amphibian and reptile species occurrence data and spatial environmental variables to predict and map habitat...

WHISPers stands for Wildlife Health Information Sharing Partnership - event reporting system. It is a web-based repository for sharing basic information about historic and ongoing wildlife mortality (death) and morbidity (illness) events. The system possesses a searchable archive of wildlife mortality and morbidity event data that is available to the public. The information is opportunistically collected and does not reflect all the mortality events that occur in North America. WHISPers is driven by a subset of data housed in NWHC’s ‘Epizoo’ database (http://data.usgs.gov/datacatalog/#q=EPIZOO).

ABSTRACT: The fungal pathogen Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) causes chytridiomycosis, a disease implicated in amphibian declines on 5 continents. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) primer sets exist with which amphibians can be tested for this disease, and advances in sampling techniques allow non-invasive testing of animals. We developed filtering and PCR based quantitative methods by modifying existing PCR assays to detect Bd DNA in water and sediments, without the need for testing amphibians; we tested the methods at 4 field sites. The SYBR based assay using Boyle primers (SYBR/Boyle assay) and the Taqman based assay using Wood primers performed similarly with samples generated in the laboratory (Bd spiked...

The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species contains assessments for just over 76,000 species, of which about two-thirds have spatial data. This spatial data provided below is for comprehensively assessed taxonomic groups. It is important to note that some species such as those listed as Data Deficient are not mapped and subspecies are mapped within the parental species. The data is available as ESRI shapefiles format and contains the known range of each species. Ranges are depicted as polygons, except for the freshwater HydroSHED tables. The shapefiles contain taxonomic information, distribution status, IUCN Red List category, sources and other details about the maps (see metadata document). Please note that the files...
These data indicate whether a premetamorphic or any life stage of each amphibian species (sierran treefrog Pseudacris sierra, California red-legged frog Rana draytonii, and rough-skinned newt Taricha granulosa) was detected in a survey. These data, combined with the survey data, are necessary for modeling occupancy while accounting for imperfect detection. Surveys for which no detections occurred do not appear in this file, but are in the survey data file (Survey_Data_for_Occupancy_of_Amphibians_in_Northern_California_Coastal_Dune_Drainages_2014_2016).
These data describe the maximum water depth in each studied coastal dune drainage in each study year. Water depth is used as a proxy for hydroperiod, and is a good indicator of the relative persistence of surface water among sites that can be collected in a single visit.

These data provide information on the relationship between California red-legged frogs and their habitat in a unique ecosystem to better conserve this threatened species while restoring habitat for rare dune plants and animals.
These data describe the date, time (night vs. day), observer, and air temperature of each amphibian occupancy survey conducted in coastal dune drainages from 2014 through 2016. Survey-specific covariates explain patterns in detection probabilities among surveys, thereby reducing bias in occupancy models and improving future surveys.

California Red-legged Frogs (Rana draytonii) are typically regarded as inhabitants of permanent ponds, marshes, and slow-moving streams, but their ecology in other habitats, including coastal dunes, remains obscure. To avoid and minimize potential negative effects of dune restoration activities, we studied the spatial ecology, habitat selection, and survival of California Red-legged Frogs in coastal dune drainages at Point Reyes National Seashore, California. Frogs remained in their home drainages throughout the summer, and, with some notable exceptions, most remained close to water. Home ranges of California Red-legged Frogs in dunes were generally small, and they selected areas near water with logs that served...

This report is volume 2 of a two-volume ecological assessment of grassland ecosystems in the Southwestern United States. Broad-scale assessments are syntheses of current scientific knowledge, including a description of uncertainties and assumptions, to provide a characterization and comprehensive description of ecological, social, and economic components within an assessment area. Volume 1 of this assessment focused on the ecology, types, conditions, and management practices of Southwestern grasslands. Volume 2 (this volume) describes wildlife and fish species, their habitat requirements, and species-specific management concerns, in Southwestern grasslands. This assessment is regional in scale and pertains primarily...

This assessment is regional in...

Highway runoff has the potential to negatively impact receiving systems including stormwater retention ponds where highway particulate matter can accumulate following runoff events. Tire wear particles, which contain about 1% Zn by mass, make up approximately one-third of the vehicle derived particulates in highway runoff and therefore may serve as a stressor to organisms utilizing retention ponds as habitat. In this study, we focused on the potential contribution of tire debris to Zn accumulation by Rana sylvatica larvae and possible lethal or sublethal impacts resulting from exposure to weathered tire debris during development. Eggs and larvae were exposed to aged sediments (containing either ZnCl2 or tire particulate...
