The surficial geology, wetlands, and deepwater habitats of the Coeur d' AleneRiver Valley, Idaho were mapped by Arthur A. Bookstrom and Stephen E. Box(1996-1998) onto 1:24,000 scale topographic base maps (stable-basegreenline mylars) for input into an Arc/Info geographic informationsystem (GIS).
The digital geologic map of the Coeur d'Alene 1:100,000 quadrangle wascompiled from preliminary digital datasets [Athol, Coeur d'Alene,Kellogg, Kingston, Lakeview, Lane, and Spirit Lake 15-minutequadrangles] prepared by the Idaho Geological Survey from A. B. Griggs(unpublished field maps), supplemented by Griggs (1973) and by digitaldata from Bookstrom and others (1999) and Derkey and others (1996).The digital geologic map database can be queried in many ways toproduce a variety of derivative geologic maps.
Geologic data from the geologic map of the Spokane 1:100,000-scale quadrangle compiled by Joseph (1990) were entered into a geographic information system (GIS) as part of a larger effort to create regional digital geology for the Pacific Northwest. The map area is located in eastern Washington and extendds across the state border into western Idaho.
This metadata file (pbrchseg.met) describes three shape files used.Shape file rivreach.shp contains the upstream and downstreamboundaries of seven reaches of the river. Natural features defineriver-reach boundaries at the confluence of the North and Southforks of the Coeur d'Alene (CdA) River, the transition from agravel- to a sand- bottomed channel, the mouth of the river, andthe base of the delta front. Other river-reach boundaries are atmidpoints between river-channel drill transects. River-reachboundaries provide end limits for Estimation Units, for whichthickness, volume, tonnage, and lead content of Pb-rich sedimentwere estimated.Shape file segments.shp contains up- and down-valley boundariesof 3 sections...
![]() This metadata describes thirteen different geo-referenced tifimages. Hand colored geological mapped data of the area inSanders and Lincoln counties, Montana and Kootenai, Bonner,Benewah, and Shoshone counties, Idaho were converted to digitalformat (TIFF). These data were donated to US Geological Survey bythe mineral industry. The area lies in the western part of theBelt Basin and contains metasedimentary rocks of MiddleProterozoic age. The area mainly contains rocks of the Prichard,Burke, Revett, St. Regis, Wallace, Empire and Spokane formations. The source maps were scanned on an Ideal FSC 6010 36" width colorpass through scanner at 200 ppi as 8 bit indexed color or in twoinstances at the 24 bit color level. Images...
This report presents the results of over 1100 geochemicalanalyses of samples of soil and sediment from the Coeur d'Alne(CdA) drainage basin in northern Idaho. The location(in 3 dimensions) and a lithological description of each sampleis included with the laboratory analytical data. Methods ofsample location, collection, preparation, digestion andgeochemical analysis are described. Five differentlaboratories contributed geochemical data for this reportand the quality control procedures used by each laboratoryare described. Comparison of the analytical accuracy andprecision of each laboratory is given by comparing analysesof standard reference materials and of splits of CdA samples. These geochemical data are presented...
![]() Aeromagnetic data were collected along flight lines by instruments in an aircraft that recorded magnetic-field values and locations. This dataset presents latitude, longitude, altitude, and magnetic-field values.

This metadata file (cdafldpl.met) describes three shape files.Shape file cdasurf4_utm.shp, with its associated .shx and .dbf files, contains polygons and attributes for a map of geologic and wetlandunits and systems, which represent sedimentary depositionalenvironments of the Coeur d'Alene (CdA) River valley. This map extendsbeyond the lateral and longitudinal boundaries of the area studiedfor this report.Shape file fldpln2.shp was derived from shape file cdasurf4.shp bytrimming it to the study area for this report, which includes theCdA River channel and floodplain, from the confluence of its Northand South forks, to the base of its delta, in CdA Lake.Shape file fpaream2.shp was derived from fldpln2.shp by merging...
This metadata file (pbsamthk.met) describes two dBase4 tables. One table (alsamPb.dbf) contains UTM coordinates for 998surface-sediment geochemical sample sites, and concentration oflead, in parts per million (ppm Pb), in each sample. The other table(thkpb11.dbf) contains UTM coordinates for 428 point locations, thickness (in centimeters) of Pb-rich sediment, and thickness-interval weighted-average lead concentration in each stratigraphicsection of Pb-rich sediment. These data were compiled from ten different studies referenced herein,in which different methods were used to digest and chemicallyanalyze samples. Total analytical uncertainty (including uncertaintyin estimation of area, density, and Pb concentration)...
Cell maps for each oil and gas play were created by the USGS as a method for illustrating the degree of exploration, type of production, and distribution of production in a play or province. Each cell represents a quarter-mile square of the land surface, and the cells are coded to represent whether the wells included within the cell are predominantly oil-producing, gas-producing, both oil and gas-producing, or dry. The well information was initially retrieved from the Petroleum Information (PI) Well History Control System (WHCS), which is a proprietary, commercial database containing information for most oil and gas wells in the U.S. Cells were developed as a graphic solution to overcome the problem of displaying...
