This dataset is a compilation of boundary location polygons for 167 hydraulic mine pits located in northern California. This dataset was compiled from three sources, Topographically Occurring Mine Symbols (TOMS) database produced by the California Department of Conservation (2001), Yeend (1974), and on-screen digitizing, using current (2015) satellite imagery, of additional hydraulic mine pits not contained in either of these sources. The polygon (vector) shapefiles represent Public Land Survey System (PLSS) sections, or 1-square mile areas of land, with information about Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land and mineral use authorizations for plans of operations and notices. The land areas specified by BLM authorizations vary in size and orientation, and may cross one or more PLSS section boundaries. For spatial consistency, the information was aggregated to the square mile PLSS section boundary. The original source data from BLM Cases Recordation database (LR2000) were specific to the day they were generated (March 6, 2016) and subsequent data pulls will likely be different.

These are shapefiles and final unioned polygon coverages used to calculate coal resources of the A through D coal zones, Yampa coal field, northwestern Colorado. Yamafing was used for the A coal zone, yambfing was used for the B coal zone, etc. Polygons that make up the final unioned polygons include counties, 7.5' quadrangles, townships, surface and coal ownership, leased areas, net coal thickness categories, and overburden categories. The final unioned coverage for each coal zone, was clipped by the resource boundary polygon of each coal zone. These polygons are described in the metadata files for the yam_bnd coverages.
