This data set includes mosaicked aerial photographs for the Shell Island East Barrier Island Restoration (BA-0110) project both pre and post-construction for 2013. This data is used as a basemap habitat classification. If repeated, it can also serve as a visual tool for project managers to help them identify any obvious problems or land loss within their project boundary. To better evaluate the effectiveness of restoration efforts, a habitat classification was performed on specific projects to help assess landscape changes. First posted - June 18, 2018 (available from author) Revised - July 15, 2021 (version 1.1)

This data series provides tabular output from a series of modeling simulations for the State of California. The methods and results of this research are described in detail in Sleeter et al. (2019). We used the LUCAS model to project changes in ecosystem carbon balance resulting from land use and land use change, climate change, and ecosystem disturbances such as wildfire and drought. The model was run at a 1-km spatial resolution on an annual timestep. We simulated 32 unique scenarios, consisting of 4 land-use scenarios and 2 radiative forcing scenarios as simulated by 4 global climate models. For each scenario, we ran 100 Monte Carlo realizations of the model. Additional details describing the modeling effort...

This dataset is the second (circa 2000) in a series of three 1-kilometer land use land cover (LULC) time-periods datasets (1975, 2000, and 2013) aids in monitoring change in West Africa’s land resources. To monitor and map these changes, a 26 general LULC class system was used. The classification system that was developed was primarily inspired by the “Yangambi Classification” (Trochain, 1957). This fairly broad class system for LULC was used because the classes can be readily identified on Landsat satellite imagery. A visual photo-interpretation approach was used to identify and map the LULC classes represented on Landsat images. The Rapid Land Cover Mapper (RLCM) was used to facilitate the photo-interpretation...

These polygon features represent a comprehensive inventory of perennial snow and ice on the landscape in Glacier National Park (GNP) in 2005. This dataset does not include the 2005 extent of the named glaciers in GNP, which have been previously published. Of the perennial snow and ice features delineated here, 1.68 km2 (15.08%) of the total area exhibits characteristics indicative of active glacial ice. The imagery used to delineate perennial snow and ice was taken late season, therefore, all snow and ice present on the landscape is assumed to be perennial. Polygons were digitized based on National Agricultural Imagery Program (NAIP) imagery acquired in 2005, imagery acquired by the National Park Service in 2004...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in partnership with several federal agencies, has developed and released four National Land Cover Database (NLCD) products over the past two decades: NLCD 1992, 2001, 2006, and 2011. These products provide spatially explicit and reliable information on the Nation’s land cover and land cover change. To continue the legacy of NLCD and further establish a long-term monitoring capability for the Nation’s land resources, the USGS has designed a new generation of NLCD products named NLCD 2016. The NLCD 2016 design aims to provide innovative, consistent, and robust methodologies for production of a multi-temporal land cover and land cover change database from 2001 to 2016 at 2–3-year...

The CLIM-MET stations are meteorological/geological stations that are designed to function in remote areas for long periods of time without human intervention. These stations measure meteorological and wind-erosion parameters under varying climatic and land-use conditions to detect and describe ongoing landscape changes. Combined with historic and other data, CLIM-MET data can provide inputs into regional climatic models that describe how the Southwest will respond to future climatic conditions.

This dataset is a collection of hyperspectral imagery profiles of 13 common algae associated with Harmful Algae Blooms (HAB). Data were retrieved from a hyperspectral microscope at, and with the cooperation of, the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Samples were collected from USGS water quality sampling efforts, and were also purchased from commercial vendors of biological materials. Data are shown in basic hyperspectral imagery form, transformed into the first derivative and corrected with a flat field algorithm to account for variations in locale lighting conditions. Management and disturbances have significant effects on grassland forage production. When using satellite remote sensing to monitor climate impacts such as drought stress on annual forage production, minimizing these effects provides a clearer climate signal in the productivity data. The research objectives are to (1) estimate biomass expected at a certain location under specific weather conditions, (2) determine which drought indices explain the majority of inter-annual variability in the study area and (3) develop a model that estimates annual biomass early in the growing season. This study uses an established methodology to determine an expected ecosystem performance (EEP) in the Nebraska Sandhills, USA, representing...

Tabular data output from a series of modeling simulations for the seven main Hawaiian Islands. We used the LUCAS model to project changes in ecosystem carbon balance resulting from land use, land use change, climate change, and wildfire. The model was run at a 250-m spatial resolution on an annual timestep from the years 2010 to 2100. We simulated four unique scenarios, consisting of all combinations of two land-use scenarios and two radiative forcing scenarios. For each scenario, we ran 30 Monte Carlo realizations of the model. Results presented here have been aggregated from the individual cell level and summarized by island or vegetation class. Model input data and the R code used to generate it, as well as R...

This dataset describes streamflow and precipitation event statistics for four watersheds located in Clarksburg, Maryland, USA. Streamflow and precipitation events were identified from fourteen years of sub-daily (5- and 15-minute) monitoring data from October 1, 2004 through September 30, 2018. A 6-hour inter-event window was used to define discrete streamflow and precipitation events. The following streamflow metrics were calculated for each event area normalized peak streamflow, runoff yield, runoff ratio, streamflow duration, time to peak, and rise rate. Precipitation event metrics include total precipitation depth and precipitation event duration.
