The Mississippi Coastal Improvements Program (MsCIP) has developed a Comprehensive Barrier Island Restoration Plan containing options to ensure the integrity of the Mississippi barrier islands through restoration efforts. Any restoration activities implemented must have minimal adverse impacts to critical habitat for various marine, terrestrial and avian resources. Documenting the success of restoration activities in meeting this requirement requires habitat monitoring. In recent communications with MsCIP personnel, the MsCIP lacks a remotely sensed component to its habitat monitoring plan. Additionally, MsCIP personnel have expressed a need for data pertaining to critical habitat utilized by species of interest...
These data were compiled to provide seed transfer and native plant materials development guidance to managers and practitioners across the Colorado Plateau and in adjacent regions. This data release contains empirical seed transfer zones derived from molecular genetic data for Cleome lutea (syn. Peritoma lutea) and Machaeranthera canescens (syn. Dieteria canescens). These species show distinct population structure (i.e., genetic differentiation) across their ranges; as such, seed transfer zones reflect both patterns of genetic differentiation and information on each species' unique adaptations to climatic gradients. These shapefile data may support successful restoration outcomes if, for example, seed transfer follows...

An unmanned aerial system (UAS) was used to acquire red/green/blue (RGB) and hyperspectral image data from the American River in California November 5-7, 2018, to support research on remote sensing of rivers, specifically mapping chinook salmon spawning locations (redds) as part of an overall salmon habitat assessment program. The RGB images were acquired uisng a DJI MAtrice 210 equipped with a Zenmuse 4S optical camera. Imagery was collected along several parallel flight lines to ensure full coverage of the study reach. Raw Zenmuse images were georeferenced using real-time kinematic (RTK) global positioning system (GPS) and inertial motion unit (IMU) data recorded onboard the UAS and individual flight strips were...

This data release is part of a 2016-2019 study on the geology, geochemistry and geochronology of ore systems in the eastern Yukon-Tanana Upland region, Alaska. Whole rock chemistry was conducted on 185 samples, mostly from Au prospects, with lesser samples from porphyry Cu prospects. Geographically, most samples are from gold prospects near the Pogo Au mine and east to Black Mountain in the Big Delta quadrangle. Fewer samples are from prospects in the Eagle and Tanacross Quadrangles. Samples were submitted to the USGS contract laboratory and analyzed for select trace elements and gold. Sixty elements were determined by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy-mass spectroscopy (ICP-OES-MS), sodium...

Old World Climbing Fern (Lygodium microphyllum (Cav.) R. Br.) is an invasive plant species threatening South Florida ecosystems. In 1989 L. microphyllum was observed in the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. L. microphyllum has attributes that allow it to thrive in South Florida. It produces a huge number of small spores that are easily suspended by wind and dispersed, have a high germination rate, and gametophytes have a high rate of sporophyte production. Aerial dispersal allows it to spread to suitable germination sites and its ability to self-fertilize at such high rates promotes successful colonization. The intense, abundant spore production also assists in saturating most suitable colonization...

Discharge measurements and velocity mapping surveys were completed at select tie channels located at Nimz Ranch, on the main-stem Kootenai River. Tie channels convey water and sediments between the main river channel and river floodplain waterbodies. The velocity mapping surveys are used to document how the tie channels interact with the main-stem Kootenai River. Similar surveys will be conducted following project construction completion (after 2021). Velocity mapping provides data to support the flow split estimates in the tie channel reconnection. These mapping efforts are a quantitative assessment of the the tie channels role in altering drift, temperature, and floodplain storage. An acoustic Doppler current...

Rangelands have immense inherent spatial and temporal variability, yet assessments of land condition and trends are often assessed relative to the condition of a limited number of representative points. Ecological Potential (EP) data are spatially comprehensive, quantitative, and needed as a baseline for comparison of current rangeland vegetation conditions, trends, and management targets. We define EP as the potential fractional cover of vegetation components bare ground, herbaceous, litter, shrub, and sagebrush represented in the least disturbed and most productive portion of the western U.S. This dataset enables: 1) setting realistic expectations for restoration and management targets at 30-meter resolution,...

The Cache Creek Settling Basin (CCSB) is a 13.3 km2 leveed basin located at the terminal drainage of the Cache Creek watershed, immediately NE of the town of Woodland (Yolo County), California and approximately 18 km NW of Sacramento, California. The basin was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (completed in 1937 and modified in 1993) for the purpose of trapping suspended sediment transported from the upper Cache Creek watershed during high-flow events, thus preventing sediment from entering the Yolo Bypass, a larger downstream floodwater conveyance and agricultural zone. In addition to trapping suspended sediment, the CCSB also traps sediment-associated mercury (Hg), which is particularly elevated...
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) computed rasters of pre-solved values for the watersheds draining to the pixel delineation point representing the watershed's mean maximum and minimum January temperature from PRISM 1981-2010 4km data (resampled to 30m resolution). These values, which cover the conterminous United States, will be served in the National StreamStats Fire-Hydrology application to describe delineated watersheds (https://streamstats.usgs.gov/). The StreamStats application provides access to spatial analysis tools that are useful for water-resources planning and management, and for engineering and design purposes. The map-based user interface can be used to delineate drainage areas, to retrieve basin...

The U.S. Geological Survey Oregon Water Science Center, in cooperation with The Klamath Tribes initiated a project to understand changes in the surface-water extent of Klamath Marsh, Oregon and changes in groundwater levels within and surrounding the marsh. The initial phase of the study focused on developing datasets needed for future interpretive phases of the investigation. This data release documents the creation of a geospatial dataset of January through May maximum surface-water extent based on a model developed by John Jones (2015; 2019) to detect surface-water inundation within vegetated areas from satellite imagery. The Dynamic Surface Water Extent (DSWE) model uses Landsat at-surface reflectance imagery...

Across the country, public land managers make hundreds of decisions each year that influence landscapes and ecosystems within the lands they manage. Many of these decisions involve vegetation manipulations known as land treatments. Land treatments include activities such as removal or alteration of plant biomass, seeding burned areas, and herbicide applications. Data on these land treatments historically have been stored at local offices and gathering information across large spatial areas was difficult. These valuable data needed to be centralized and stored for Federal agencies involved in land treatments because these data are useful to land managers for policy and management and to scientists for developing...

Using publicly available data for Madison and Oneida counties, New York, a series of geospatial overlays were created at 1:24,000 scale to examine the bedrock geology, groundwater table, soils, and surficial geology. Bedrock and surficial geology were refined using extant bedrock maps, well and borehole data from water- and gas-wells, soil data, and lidar data. Groundwater data were collected from New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and U.S. Geological Survey water-well databases to estimate the groundwater table. Soil data were used to examine soil thickness over bedrock and infiltration. An inventory of closed depressions was created using reconditioned lidar-derived bare-earth digital elevation...
