Relatively few studies have examined the social aspects of climate change in the US. Of that research, most have studied perceptions and public understanding (Akerlof, Maibach, Fitzgerald, Cedeno, & Neuman, 2013; Leiserowitz et al., 2015; van der Linden, 2015). For example, some visitor studies on place-based climate change have focused on perceptions and knowledge (Brownlee, 2012; Crona, Wutich, Brewis, & Gartin, 2013; De Urioste-Stone, Scaccia, & Howe-Poteet, 2015).
