Capture, GPS-collar tagging, and release of cougars was conducted in northern Arizona and southern Utah and Nevada, USA, from 2003 to 2013 by the U.S. Geological Survey and the National Park Service (Northern Arizona University IACUC Protocol # 02-082-R4), resulting in GPS-tracking and monitoring of study animal activities. This data set includes six individuals that met three criteria: 1) few missing data (≥ 85% fix success rate), 2) long periods of continuous monitoring, with a minimum of 1000 observations, and 3) established home range with no evidence of dispersal. These data were compiled to investigate differentiation in physiological activity varies through time for different functional groups. These include the seasonal progress of 13 plant species representing perennial C3 shrub, C3 grass, C4 grass, and annual forb functional groups of the Colorado Plateau, USA. These data can be used to test for differences in carbon assimilation strategies (SeasonalEcophyAciData) and how photosynthetic rates related to climate (SeasonalEcophyMonthlyData). Midcontinent sandhill cranes (Antigone canadensis) are the most abundant management population of cranes in the world and have a broad breeding range. Four breeding segments of midcontinent sandhill cranes have been designated based on spatial and temporal distributions throughout the year, including Western Alaska–Siberia (WA–S), Northern Canada–Nunavut (NC–N), West-central Canada–Interior Alaska (WC–A) and East-central Canada–Minnesota (EC–M). USGS scientists counted American pikas (Ochotona princeps) and hoary marmots (Marmota caligata) in North Cascades National Park, Washington, USA during 2016. Hoary marmots were resurveyed in 2017, primarily by the National Park Service. Surveys occurred at sites of previous studies by Jason Bruggeman (pikas - 2009-2013), Aidan Beers (pikas - 2013-2015), and Roger Christophersen (marmots - 2007-2008) and followed protocols implemented by these researchers. Data include animal counts, survey locations, and survey dates for all surveys conducted by USGS. Marmots are classified as adult, yearling, or juvenile for observations in which age was evident.

This habitat model was developed to identify suitable habitat for the federally-endangered least Bell’s vireo (Vireo bellii pusillus) across its current and historic range in California. The vireo disappeared from most of its range by the 1980s, remaining only in small populations in southern California. Habitat protection and management since the mid-1980s has led to an increase in southern California vireo populations with small numbers of birds recently expanding into the historic range. Lidar-derived digital elevation models often contain a vertical bias due to vegetation. In areas with tidal influence the amount of bias can be ecologically significant, for example, by decreasing the expected inundation frequency. This dataset includes location, field measurements, and descriptions of 330 Uma inornata sampled for the research study entitled “Sampling Across 20 Years (1996–2017) Reveals Loss of Diversity and Genetic Connectivity in the Coachella Valley Fringe-Toed Lizard (Uma inornata)”. Field sampling occurred between March and September of 2017 and between April and June of 2018. Lizards were located by visually searching dune habitat in all major populations. Sites included Windy Point, Willow Hole, Train Station, Whitewater, and the South Coachella Valley Preserve. These tables include data from 25 long-term forest plots located in either Sequoia or Yosemite national park. Trees in these plots (established between 1982 and 2001) are censused annually for mortality and measured for diameter every 4 to 6 years. Plots were mostly 1 hectare (ha) in size (range 0.9 – 2.5 ha) and contained at least two 25 by 25 meter seedling sub-plots to monitor natural seedling recruitment. The largest plot, at 2.5 ha, included four such seedling sub-plots. Each sub-plot was divided into 5 by 5 meter quadrats. This data set includes still images and videos from three bays within Hurricane Hole, Virgin Islands Coral Reef National Monument, documenting the remarkable biodiversity of the coral/mangrove ecosystem within these bays, and the effects of the 2017 Hurricanes Irma and Maria on this unique ecosystem. This study was initiated to provide baseline data and to determine the utility of stable isotope analysis to evaluate the foraging strategies of an opportunistic reptile predator. Stable isotope ratios of carbon and nitrogen were evaluated from multiple tissues from terrapin populations to determine spatial or temporal variations in resource use within mangrove habitats in Southern Florida. We sampled Diamondback terrapin (Malaclemys terrapin) and potential resources within mainland and island habitats, and evaluated their δ13C and δ15N values. Invasive Burmese pythons (Python bivittatus) have been reproducing in the Florida Everglades since the 1980s. Introduction of the species was either due to unintentional escapes or intentional releases from snakes obtained through the commercial pet trade. Burmese pythons have caused a precipitous decline in small mammal populations in south Florida. To better understand the invasive population, two mitochondrial loci (mtDNA; 1398 bps) were sequenced on 426 snakes and 22 microsatellites were genotyped on 389 snakes. We examined species boundaries within an imperiled group of freshwater mussels in the genus Cyclonaias (Bivalvia: Unionidae) using morphometrics, molecular phylogenetics, and multispecies coalescent models to help guide pending conservation assessments and legislative decisions. Congruence across all lines of evidence indicated that current taxonomy overestimates diversity in the C. pustulosa species complex, while underestimating diversity in the C. nodulata species complex. A green-tree reservoir (GTR) is a stand of bottomland hardwoods that is intentionally flooded in the fall and winter to support migrating waterfowl. Bottomland hardwood forest plots, installed 1985-1987 in the GTR on Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge (FNWR), are measured every 5-6 years to monitor tree survival, growth, and mortality. An accompanying datafile contains the names, locations, and elevations of the forest plots. These parameters are defined in the Entity and Attributes section of this metadata file. This dataset provides the data associated with a 2015 project to examine factors affecting the occupancy of Gulf Coast Waterdogs along Bayou Lacombe, Saint Tammany Parish, Louisiana. Data include site locations and distance from headwaters, water data (pH, turbidity, salinity, and depth), and capture data from trap checks. For Necturus beyeri captures, the datatset provides the sex of captures and length and mass measurements. The data release consists of three tab delimited text files that may be used to infer population structure or putative adaptive loci (hija_adaptation_dataset.stru), relationships among sampling localities (hija_phylogeny_dataset.phylip), or genetic diversity statistics (hija_diversity_stats.vcf). All files record genetic variation on an individual (.stru and .vcf) or sampling locality (.phylip) level.
