This dataset contains data pertaining to vegetation type, woody versus herbaceous versus non-vegetated, for a random selection of points within the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area of Southern California. These data were obtained from aerial imagery for the years 1947, 1977, 1995, 2005, and 2014 and were used to determine changes in cover type over time. The National Atmospheric Deposition Program/National Trends Network (NADP/NTN) was initiated in 1978 by the Association of State Agricultural Experiment Stations to monitor long-term atmospheric chemistry and the effects pollutants have on aquatic and terrestrial systems. The Long-Term Resource Monitoring element (LTRM) of the Upper Mississippi River Restoration program (UMRR) has conducted aquatic vegetation and water quality surveys in several navigation pools since the mid 1990’s. Over a 20-year period (1998-2017), the off-channel (i.e. backwater) areas in upper Pool 4 remained chronically turbid and supported a limited submersed macrophyte community with high between-year variability in the proportion of sites where submersed plants were observed. The shapefiles depict the 2D HEC-RAS hydraulic modeling domains used for the simulations described in the associated publication. Model domains were delineated in the HEC-RAS geometry editor to encompass river-valley bottoms and adjacent hillslopes of four river reaches of contrasting contributing area and morphology: Seneca Creek at Dawsonville, MD; Patapsco River at Woodstock, MD; Patuxent River at Unity, MD; and Little Gunpowder Falls at Laurel Brook, MD.
Coastal and estuarian wetlands in the Great Lakes Basin are increasingly impacted by habitat degradation, invasive species, and most recently (late 2010's), increased water levels. These wetlands act as an important buffer between the open lake and the near-shore areas, as key areas for nutrient cycling, as critical nurseries for many species of lake fish, and as habitat for numerous species of concern. GAP species range data are coarse representations of the total areal extent a species occupies, in other words the geographic limits within which a species can be found (Morrison and Hall 2002). These data provide the geographic extent within which the USGS Gap Analysis Project delineates areas of suitable habitat for terrestrial vertebrate species in their species' habitat maps. Remote camera stations were set up in Lava Beds National Monument and Modoc National Forest from January to May 2018 to document occurrence of mesocarnivores and other wildlife. Thirty-three cameras were set up at 12 primary sampling units (clusters of one to four cameras) throughout the park. Potentially suitable habitat occurred in small patches in Lava Beds National Monument with cameras were placed in groups of one, two or three. To allow for more primary sampling units of four cameras, some cameras were installed in neighboring portions of Modoc National Forest. Dataset contains 32 terrestrial lidar scans of conifer forests and associated shapefile of locations in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National parks from the summer of 2022. These scans were co-located within field plots from a larger ongoing U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) project collecting wildfire fuels and forest structure data (informally known as the Fire and Fuels Project). These data can also be found in a USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) database named IntELiMon (https://dmsdata.cr.usgs.gov/lidar-monitoring/viewer/).

We used murrelet occupancy data collected by the Bureau of Land Management Coos Bay District and canopy metrics calculated from discrete return airborne LiDAR data to fit a logistic regression model predicting the probability of occupancy. Our final model for stand-level occupancy included distance to coast and 5 LiDAR-derived variables describing canopy structure. This dataset is a shapefile of forest stands in the Coos Bay district representing the model results.

Plant species cover and richness data were collected in experimental plots at three sites: one at Badlands National Park (BADL), South Dakota, one at Scotts Bluff National Monument (SCBL), Nebraska, and one at Wind Cave National Park (WICA), South Dakota. Mapping of the current distributions of forest-cover types across the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge (the swamp) is critical to understanding the success of ongoing hydrologic and other management techniques used to restore the forest communities of the swamp to those present across the swamp in early colonial times. This data release contains gridded estimates of postfire debris flow probability and magnitude for six different rainfall and wildfire scenarios in southern California. The scenarios represent the present and possible future precipitation and fire regimes for the region. The results are provided for 1 km2 cells across the study area. This data release contains the results from the North American Bat Monitoring Program's report titled 'Status and Trends of North American Bats Summer Occupancy Analysis 2010-2019'. The objectives of the present study were to develop methods for propagating western pearlshell (Margaritifera falcata) for laboratory toxicity testing and evaluate acute and chronic toxicity of chromium VI [Cr (VI)] to the pearlshell and a commonly tested mussel (fatmucket, Lampsilis siliquoidea at 20°C or in association with a co-stressor of elevated temperature (27°C), zinc (50 µg Zn/L), or nitrate (35 mg NO3/L). Sage-grouse continue to use habitat following wildfire, so prioritizing high selection, low survival areas can help ameliorate potential post-wildfire ecological traps. This shapefile represents areas within the burn scars at the Virginia Mountains field site which are high selection and high or low survival which have been deemed to be 'priority' targets for post-fire restoration efforts. The Central Mojave Vegetation Polygons shapefile represents areas of the Mojave Desert classified into vegetation classes or alliances representative of the area from 1997-1999. The classification of these areas were derived from context gathered in the field data, photographs and additional satellite imagery that is not included in this data release. The original map coverage was preserved and released as a shapefile (mojave_veg_polygons.shp).
