These data represent the Habitat Based Populations of the Quino checkerspot butterfly based on observation data from 1997 to 2012. The observations were buffered by a 1 kilometer distance and then combined and named as specific population base areas following the criteria in the 5 year review.

This data product contains combined estimates of high habitat connectivity areas for mountain lion, mule deer, desert bighorn sheep, and black bear. The analysis area was a 236,000 square kilometers that encompassed the Navajo Nation, which includes portions of Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. The estimates of habitat quality were created with spatially explicit habitat variables and either an expert-based linear combination process (for mountain lion and mule deer) or a generalized linear mixed model-based estimation that used radio-collar telemetry data (for desert bighorn sheep, black bear, and pronghorn; collected between 2005-2011). Conservation priorities have been identified for each river basin at the cataloging unit or stream reach scale and were categorized using two tiers to indicate relative importance when considering the limited resources available for conservation initiatives. The recommendations were developed by Commission biologists through review of their field data as well as data from several agencies and research organizations. The authors developed an integrated assessment model linking the water quality effects of cropland conservation investment decisions on the more than 550 agricultural subwatersheds that deliver nutrients into the Gulf of Mexico with a hypoxic zone model. Areas identified in the Minnesota Pheasant Action Plan to target habitat enhancement and protection in complexes at least 9 square miles in size where a goal of 40 percent permanent protection can be met within the timeframe of the plan. The complexes identify the best places for pheasant production and focused protection efforts on those areas to create permanent habitat complexes. This habitat model was developed to identify suitable habitat for the federally-endangered least Bell’s vireo (Vireo bellii pusillus) across its current and historic range in California. The vireo disappeared from most of its range by the 1980s, remaining only in small populations in southern California. Habitat protection and management since the mid-1980s has led to an increase in southern California vireo populations with small numbers of birds recently expanding into the historic range. We designed a 12.2 km walking transect so that an observer would pass within 50m of all habitat in the estuary and also minimize fording large channels. This transect was drawn using the path tool in Google Earth on a satellite image of the survey area. The path was printed on top of paper maps and used by observers as a map in the field. Most often, the entire transect was walked by two observers, one starting in the far West, the other in the middle of the estuary. Observers were permitted to deviate from the map to get clear views of certain features like incised channels or to identify a particular bird.
