Sage-grouse habitat areas divided into proposed management categories within Nevada and California project study boundaries. HABITAT CATEGORY DETERMINATION The process for category determination was directed by the Nevada Sagebrush Ecosystem Technical team. Sage-grouse habitat was determined from a statewide resource selection function model and first categorized into 4 classes: high, moderate, low, and non-habitat. The standard deviations (SD) from a normal distribution of RSF values created from a set of validation points (10% of the entire telemetry dataset) were used to categorize habitat ‘quality’ classes. 1) High quality habitat comprised pixels with RSF values < 0.5 SD. 2) Moderate > 0.5 and < 1.0 SD. 3)...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) developed a regression model for estimating mean August baseflow per square mile of drainage area in cooperation with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to help resource managers assess relative amounts of baseflow in streams with Maine Atlantic Salmon habitat (Lombard and others, 2021). The model was applied to each reach of a stream network derived from select National Hydrography Dataset Plus High-Resolution (NHDPlusHR) data in the State of Maine south of 46º 21′55″ N latitude. The spatial coverage developed from the stream network contains model-estimated mean August baseflow per square mile of drainage area as an attribute of each NHDPlusHR reach. Please...

This dataset represents a species distribution model for least tern (Sternula antillarum) on New Jersey’s Atlantic coast and was created as part of the Protection of Critical Beach Habitat project. In addition to least tern, this project includes species distribution models for piping plover (Charadrius melodus), least tern (Sternula antillarum), and American oystercatcher (Haematopus palliatus). All species models can be found in the Data Basin gallery Protection of Critical Beach-nesting Bird Habitats in the Wake of Severe Coastal Storms.Species distribution modeling was conducted to examine the influence of landscape scale variables and beach management strategies on bird breeding habitat suitability. The probability...

The purpose of the plowprint is to track annual grassland conversion to cropland across the Mississippi River Basin and Great Plains region, and to provide a way to measure the loss of this important habitat type, against which annual changes can be compared. This report tracks changes at the sub-regional scale, as well as in the context of the broader geography, and highlights key elements of change each year. The focus of this report is on changes in grassland conversion from 2014-2015, based on data from the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service Cropland Data Layer and the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Annual Crop Inventory. For this analysis, cropland is defined as any annually planted agricultural...

This dataset represents the cumulative result of multi-season classification of land cover in the GCPO LCC geography to NatureServe Ecological Systems based on 2011 seasonal Landsat Satellite Imagery. The approach used a Random Forest algorithm and several dozen input data layers to classify land cover at a 30 m pixel resolution. The description below is taken directly from the report titled “Update of the Eastern GCPO Land Cover Database to 2011 Using a LS2SRC Approach”, by Dr. Qingmin Meng, Department of Geosciences, Mississippi State University.Random Forest classifier is based on the general decision tree approach, which has been a popular approach to multilevel and multistage decision making. Its basic idea...

The model was acquired from Tyler Wagner (U.S. Geological Survey) (DeWeber & Wagner, 2014). Model outputs were composed of Ecological Drainage Units (EDUs), each of which was assigned a resulting mean predicted occurrence probability. The study region was determined by the Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture (EBTJV) and represents the native range of the species on the East Coast. The polygons of interest were derived from the NHD plus dataset, with local catchments located at least 90% within the study region boundary. Presence data was taken from fish sampling records collected from state agencies and the Multistage Aquatic Resources Information System (MARIS), and these points were joined to the nearest stream...

Hellbender presence data was acquired from NatureServe and limited to points dating from 1980 to the present, with individual points adapted from the available data. Geospatial data was acquired from the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Land Cover Database (NLCD) and the Horizon Systems Corporation National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) Version 2. The study was conducted over the extent of the Appalachian LCC. Environmental variables of consideration were determined through literature review and expert advice on the species (Personal correspondence, Quinn, 2009). Hellbender presence data was sub-sampled to reduce spatial bias. Pseudo-absence points were also calculated to be within 1 km of the position of the presence...

The Cooperative Land Cover Map is a project to develop an improved statewide land cover map from existing sources and expert review of aerial photography. The project is directly tied to a goal of Florida's State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP) to represent Florida's diverse habitats in a spatially-explicit manner. The Cooperative Land Cover Map integrates 3 primary data types: 1) 6 million acres are derived from local or site-specific data sources, primarily on existing conservation lands. Most of these sources have a ground-truth or local knowledge component. We collected land cover and vegetation data from 37 existing sources. Each dataset was evaluated for consistency and quality and assigned a confidence category...

The model for golden-winged warbler was acquired from Dolly Crawford (Ashland University), which was included in Chapter 3 of the 2012 conservation plan (Roth et al., 2012). Model was composed of cells of predicted Golden-Winged Warbler occurrence across the study region. The study region was determined by the expert opinion derived by the technical team regarding the core breeding populations of Golden-Winged Warbler presence and assigned to the Great Lakes Conservation Region and Appalachian Conservation Region. Within these areas, certain extents are recommended for Golden-Winged Warbler conservation, as they are priority species in those regions and do not promote the invasion of Blue-Winged Warbler, a known...

This dataset has three data layers. The first represents the richness of potential habitat for selected focal species in Florida. The second represents all potential habitats in Florida for selected focal species, in binary format (true/false).This third represents all potential habitats in Florida formatted for queries by focal species; identifies focal species that may inhabit selected pixel(s). Potential habitat includes areas that have been occupied by the species and areas where occupancy is unknown based on available occurrence records. In 1994, researchers in the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission completed a project, entitled Closing The Gaps in Florida's Wildlife Habitat Conservation System...

This raster represents a continuous surface of sage-grouse habitat probability values for Nevada and California. These values are derived from modeling the resource selection function (RSF) for the region (see supplemental information in the Open File Report cited below for more details). Higher values indicate a higher probability of quality sage-grouse habitat. NOTE: This file does not include habitat for the Bi-State management area. This dataset is associated with the following Open-File Report; Coates, P.S., Casazza, M.L., Brussee, B.E., Ricca, M.A., Gustafson, K.B., Overton, C.T., Sanchez-Chopitea, E., Kroger, T., Mauch, K., Niell, L., Howe, K., Gardner, S., Espinosa, S., and Delehanty, D.J., 2014, Spatially...
