The dataset contains the analytical results for environmental and quality-control replicate sample sets and the computed relative percent differences (RPD) greater than 25 percent for the data collected during the surface-water sampling for the Triangle Area Water Supply Monitoring Project. The data are from samples collected during October 2015 through September 2017. Several study sites contained in this dataset were sampled for other USGS projects during the same time frame. Unless the samples at these sites were collected in conjunction with the Triangle Area Water Supply Monitoring Project, the data for other projects are not included in the dataset.
The Mississippi Alluvial Plain (MAP) has become one of the most important agricultural regions in the US, and it relies heavily on a groundwater system that is poorly understood and shows signs of substantial change. The heavy use of the available groundwater resources has resulted in significant groundwater-level declines and reductions in base flow in streams within the MAP. These impacts are limiting well production and threatening future water-availability for the region. This product will help not only scientists in our center, but also at a national level. The data are equipment blanks, sampling-vehicle (ambient) blanks, and field blanks collected during October 2015 through September 2017. Several study sites contained in this dataset were sampled for other USGS projects during the same time frame. Unless the quality-control samples at these sites were collected in conjunction with the Triangle Area Water Supply Monitoring Project, the data for other projects are not included in the dataset.

Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) is a trace atmospheric gas that is primarily of anthropogenic origin but also occurs naturally in fluid inclusions in some minerals and igneous rocks, and in some volcanic and igneous fluids. SF6 has been used as a dating tool of groundwater because atmospheric concentrations of SF6 are expected to continue increasing (Busenberg and Plummer, 1997). SF6 samples were collected in 30 wells in New Hanover County, North Carolina in May 2017. The results of these samples were input into a spreadsheet calculator developed by the USGS Groundwater Dating lab in order to estimate groundwater age based on SF6 concentrations. In 2016, the total amount of public-supply water withdrawn in Puerto Rico was estimated at 551 million gallons per day (Mgal/d) from fresh water sources. Surface water accounted for 492 Mgal/d (89 percent) and groundwater accounted for 59 Mgal/d (11 percent). Population served by public-supply water systems accounted for 3.4 million people, almost 100 percent of the total population. Total domestic water use was estimated at 396 Mgal/d and it is represented as the summation of deliveries from public-supply water systems to domestic users and self-supplied domestic withdrawals. The Cape Fear and Pee Dee River Basins in North Carolina and South Carolina were chosen as a focus area study (FAS) for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Census (NWC) in 2016. This study combined a radar-based time series of Hurricane Sandy surge and estimated persistence with optical sensor-based marsh condition change to assess potential causal linkages of surge persistence and marsh condition change along the New Jersey Atlantic Ocean coast. Results based on processed TerraSAR-X and COSMO-SkyMed synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images indicated that surge flooding persisted for 12 h past landfall in marshes from Great Bay to Great Egg Harbor Bay and up to 59 h after landfall in many back-barrier lagoon marshes. The National Hydrogeologic Grid (NHG) dataset includes a raster and vector representation of 1-km cells defining a uniform grid that encompasses the continental United States. The value of each cell of the raster dataset corresponds to the 1-km cell number defined as 'cellnum' in the attributes of the vector data.
