This module is a product of the 2012 CDI-funded project Python port of Geo Data Portal (GDP) client tools (WPS) with hooks for ArcGIS Toolbox. The purpose of the module is to increase the functionality of the USGS Geo Data Portal (GDP). The GDP, developed by USGS’s Center for Integrated Data Analytics, provides a powerful functionality to process climate and other large remote gridded data, returning summary statistics and areal tabulations over user specified areas. CDI helped fund development of the USGS Geo Data Portal in 2010. In 2012, CDI funded two projects to increase the functionality of the Geo Data Portal. The California Climate Commons (CCC) and USGS Geo Data Portal (GDP) teams have collaborated to curate and host California and Great Basin Characterization Model (BCM) results. The CCC has successfully set up a web-server and installed needed software to serve these model results using data and web service standards that are compatible with the GDP. All raw monthly data has been transferred to the GDP team for processing and metadata development for hosting on the GDP. Climate change is likely to have many effects on natural ecosystems in the Southeast U.S. While there is information available to conservation managers and ecologists from the global climate models (GCMs), this information is at too coarse a resolution for use in vulnerability assessments and decision making. This dataset is part of the National Water Census Water Budget Estimation and Evaluation Project's ongoing development of best estimates of daily historical water budgets for about 100,000 hydrologic units across the United States. In this release, estimates of soil moisture and recharge are added to the already released estimates of streamflow and precipitation. All these estimates are made available per twelve-digit hydrologic unit code watershed as contained in the NHDPlusV2 dataset. As this project progresses, it is expected that a complete closed water budget generated from the same water budget model will succeed this data release. This dataset contains modeled hourly streamflow in cubic meters per second at each of about eighteen thousand selected operational and water-quality stream gage locations. It was assembled from publicly available retrospective V2.0 National Water Model outputs. The streamflow variable was extracted from model output files and the data were reshaped to optimize read performance. The stream gage locations were derived from several ongoing USGS project gages for evaluation of streamflow, water quality, and real-time monitoring, however only National Water Model identifiers and NHDPlus catchment outlet locations are used to identify model results. This project sought to incorporate land-use land-cover time series data into the Geo Data Portal web service infrastructure. Till now, the Geo Data Portal has been used for relatively low spatial resolution downscaled climate data. Data from the EPA’s Integrated Climate and Land Use Scenarios was incorporated into a web service compatible with the Geo Data Portal and is now hosted in the Geo Data Portal catalog. Throughout western North America, warming associated with climate change is leading to both earlier spring peak streamflows and earlier seed dispersal, potentially reducing seedling establishment and in turn reducing the quality of riparian (near-river) forests, which provide critical habitat for diverse birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and insects, and food and shade for fish and other aquatic animals.
