Summary
Cassiterite (SnO2) samples were collected throughout the underground Sullivan Mine near Kimberley, British Columbia. Samples (in the form of mounted loose grains, polished thin sections, and rock mounts) were prepared and analyzed for direct age dating on a laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (LA-ICPMS) system at the U.S. Geological Survey in Denver, Colorado in February and April 2018. This data release accompanies the publication, 'Origin of Tin Mineralization in the Sullivan Pb-Zn-Ag Deposit, British Columbia: Constraints from Textures, Geochemistry, and LA-ICP-MS U-Pb Geochronology of Cassiterite.' (Slack and others, 2020). The publication constrains the timing of cassiterite ore mineralization in a classic [...]

The data were obtained to further demonstrate the practical application of the LA-ICPMS analytical procedure for U–Pb dating of cassiterite (SnO2) without reliance on an independently dated matrix-matched cassiterite reference material that was characterized by other (“higher precision”) techniques such as ID-TIMS. The area chosen for this study was the Sullivan orebody. Here, the cassiterite geochronology dataset, along with geological and geochemical studies, will provide the framework to elucidate the time-space evolution of the Sullivan hydrothermal system.
